What makes Themba Zwane such a special player is his intelligence both on and off the ball. His off-the-ball movement is special, you can watch the clip below, he’s constantly scanning, creating angles, dragging defenders out of shape, and arriving in space at the right moments. In the PSL, you often see players pass the ball and then switch off, standing still and waiting for it to come back, that’s usually a sign of poor football development. Day one of Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham Hotspur is in the books, and a couple of small moments already say a lot about how meticulous he is. No matter how minor or major the situation, he coaches what the game presents. The first example came when he approached Dominic Solanke. During a small sided game, Solanke was using constant movement, checking runs and changing direction to create space. When play paused, De Zerbi stepped in to explain that in tight areas, locking/shielding the defender directly can actually create more space surrounding him to receive, without needing movement. Yet if we try to find a simple melody that can be easily hummed, we may notice something fascinating: this movement is not built around a memorable melody in the usual sense. There is no long, gentle singing line. There is no simple theme that immediately settles into the listener’s memory. Instead, Beethoven creates a world of intense motion: notes rushing forward without rest, powerful chords filled with tension, and waves of sound constantly rising and colliding with one another. So what gives this movement such extraordinary vitality after more than two centuries? The answer does not lie in how many notes Beethoven wrote. It lies in the way he transformed the smallest elements into a tremendous source of energy. Beethoven did not write this movement merely for listeners to remember a melody.
