Of this, non-fossil fuel sources account for 271.97 GW, representing over 52% of the total capacity and surpassing fossil fuel capacity, which stands at 248.5 GW. For the first time in India’s history, non-fossil fuel capacity has exceeded fossil fuel capacity. This is a truly remarkable milestone. Told ya so… The US installed more solar in Q1 2024 than it did in all of 2018 I remember people telling me in 2018/2019 that I was ignorant for predicting that Solar Energy will massively expand and take a sizable chunk of the new energy market. In the first quarter of 2024, the US saw a record-breaking addition of 11.8 gigawatts (GW) of new solar panel manufacturing capacity. This represented 75% of all new electricity-generating capacity added to the US grid during that time. Total US solar panel manufacturing capacity jumped from 15.6 GW in the last quarter of 2023 to 26.6 GW in the first quarter of 2024. Oh, and the grid didn’t fail like many of you claimed it would. The grid has evolved along with solar capacity for the most part. And that's just the US. China is solar-bullish as well, as seen below. The next 5-10 years will see this space grow even faster, whether you want to admit it or not.

The group made a record capital investment of over ₹1.5 lakh crore in infrastructure, which accounts for more than 30% of India’s total new private sector capex in FY26. 2. Adani Power will execute India’s largest-ever private sector power capex of over ₹2 lakh crore, targeting 45 GW capacity in the next five years. 3. The group is entering the nuclear energy sector through Adani Atomic Energy, with a target of 10 GW capacity by 2035. Land has already been identified for the project. 4. Around 600 GW were installed globally in 2024 and global capacity is now over a terawatt per year; total capacity of all sources installed in the US is about 1.2 terawatts. Modules are cheap, abundant, and getting installed almost everywhere, including places that previously didn't have much, if any, electricity. If we get to 1 TW of PV modules shipped every year, that would be like "multiple single digits percent of total electricity demand every year being added from just solar electrons." Key question though: how much demand will there be? And how much induced demand? Solar in many parts of Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America is not displacing existing generation, it's bringing generation where there wasn't any. Meanwhile, the bigger questions are around how you configure a system around very, very low cost but variable power: ⚡ How quickly does storage scale? ⚡ Can you move demand around to match supply? ⚡ How do energy systems in places that aren't electrified get designed to account for variability? The Union Cabinet, chaired by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved India’s environmental targets for 2030–2035 under the Paris Agreement framework Key goals include reducing the emissions intensity of GDP by 47% (from 2005 levels) and increasing non-fossil fuel power capacity to 60% by 2035.
