India has made substantial progress in renewable energy in recent years. Total renewable capacity has surged from 76 GW in 2014 to over 250 GW today with solar recording massive 50 times increase. 30 lakh homes have installed subsidised solar plants in last two years with 70 lakh more in the pipeline. 23 lakh solar pumps have been installed too. India now ranks 4th globally in total installed renewable energy capacity, 4th in wind power, and 3rd in solar power. Non-fossil fuel sources now exceed 50% of India's total installed power capacity, achieving the 2030 Paris Agreement target 5 years early. This is not to say India doesn't face massive environmental challenges. But how does gaslighting help?

By January 2026, our total installed power capacity has more than doubled to 520.5 GW. Of this, non-fossil fuel sources account for 271.97 GW, representing over 52% of the total capacity and surpassing fossil fuel capacity, which stands at 248.5 GW. Told ya so… The US installed more solar in Q1 2024 than it did in all of 2018 I remember people telling me in 2018/2019 that I was ignorant for predicting that Solar Energy will massively expand and take a sizable chunk of the new energy market. In the first quarter of 2024, the US saw a record-breaking addition of 11.8 gigawatts (GW) of new solar panel manufacturing capacity. This represented 75% of all new electricity-generating capacity added to the US grid during that time. Total US solar panel manufacturing capacity jumped from 15.6 GW in the last quarter of 2023 to 26.6 GW in the first quarter of 2024. Oh, and the grid didn’t fail like many of you claimed it would. The grid has evolved along with solar capacity for the most part. And that's just the US. China is solar-bullish as well, as seen below. The next 5-10 years will see this space grow even faster, whether you want to admit it or not.

Inaugurated the new administrative building of Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) at Aundh, Pune—based on eco-friendly (green building), Super E.C.B.C. and Net Zero concept. It reflects the commitment to clean energy and decarbonisation, meeting every green building benchmark. Congratulated the MEDA team for this exemplary achievement. Over the years, MEDA has shown outstanding performance in the renewable energy sector. Maharashtra now leads the country in solar energy generation, especially through distributed power models. Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, we have installed 5 lakh solar pumps—more than the combined 4 lakh installed in the rest of the country. Maharashtra have set an ambitious target: to meet 100% of agriculture power demand through solar energy by December 2026, bringing significant cost savings. Two core objectives guide our path forward: ✅ The first objective is to solarise all Government offices. In the 1st phase, consumers using up to 100 units of electricity will be brought to solar energy. ✅ The second objective is to prepare a separate scheme for the State similar to the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. In the 2nd phase, consumers using up to 300 units of electricity will be brought to solar energy. We’ve also signed an MoU with a Russian Government company for thorium-based power generation. It will be a game-changer for India and a boost to environmental protection. Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji has set a national goal of 50% electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Maharashtra will surely exceed this and achieve at least 52%.
