Melbourne 1981 - The Test that turned fire into glory One of India’s most dramatic overseas wins came at the MCG in February 1981. After Gundappa Viswanath’s brilliant 114 helped India reach 237, Australia piled on 419 and looked in total control. But the match changed completely in the second innings. Sunil Gavaskar’s controversial LBW decision triggered one of cricket’s most heated moments, with him nearly walking off the field in protest before cooler heads prevailed.. India set Australia just 143 to win - a modest target on paper. Then came Kapil Dev, battling injury, producing a legendary spell of 5/28. With relentless accuracy and bounce, he shattered Australia for just 83, sealing a famous 59-run victory and levelling the series 1-1.

This was Ponting’s best chance to register a test win in India as an Australian Test Captain but he couldn’t. He never won a test in India as a captain. All 40 wickets in Mumbai, 2004 👇🏼 20 wickets fell on the third and final day after 18 had already tumbled on Day 2 - a Test match that turned into absolute chaos at the Wankhede Stadium.

One of the most exciting counterattack. The test at Port Elizabeth (Boxing Day Test) in 1992 is remembered for one of Kapil Dev’s most defiant innings. India were reeling at 31 for 6, with none of the top six reaching double figures. Walking in at 27 for 5, Kapil’s first job was damage control. Batting with an injured right hand, he counter-attacked brilliantly, scoring 129, with 96 coming the next morning off 144 balls. His fearless stroke play rescued India from total embarrassment and lifted the innings to a respectable total. It was a classic Kapil Dev knock, brave, bold, and inspirational.

40 Years to 2nd Tied Test! #OnThisDay in 1986, Greg Matthews trapped Maninder Singh with the penultimate delivery to end the match as a tie. Allan Border had declared on the final day, setting India 348 to win in 87 overs. India looked in control at 190 for 2 and again at 330 for 6, needing just 18 from five overs. But Ray Bright struck twice, making all four results possible. Shivlal Yadav smashed Matthews for six before falling to Bright: 344 for 9, with four needed from eight balls. Maninder, a genuine No. 11, survived Bright’s over, leaving Ravi Shastri to face the final over. Shastri took two off the second ball and a single off the third, ensuring India couldn’t lose- but leaving Matthews three balls at Maninder. He needed only two.

When Pakistan destroyed Australia after managing to score just 184 runs. In the first game of tri series in 2000, at the Gabba, Australia cruising at 76/1 thanks to a brisk stand between Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist, Shoaib turned the game in a single over. First, he dismissed Ponting with a sharp leg-cutter edged to slip, then trapped Steve Waugh lbw with a fiery off-cutter on the very next ball. Roared on by the crowd, Shoaib’s spell of pace and aggression set the tone for a stunning collapse. Abdur Razzaq then ripped through the middle order with 4/23, removing Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds and Brett Lee in a devastating burst as Australia lost five wickets for just seven runs. Waqar Younis finished the job, bowling Australia out for 139 despite resistance from Michael Bevan.

India pass first real test with ease In the first real test for both sides, India won comfortably, bowling out the West Indies for 173 and, inspired by Sachin Tendulkar, chasing it inside 40 overs. Both innings followed a similar pattern: two early wickets, a brief recovery, then the captain falling in the deep around the early nineties. Tendulkar scored 70 off 91 balls to earn his second straight match award before being run out in a mix-up with Kambli, who then guided the chase to the finish. #OnThisDay in 1996.

I remember this match very well; it was in Colombo against Australia, where Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf were unavailable. Imran Nazir, Taufiq Umar, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Faisal Iqbal were tested in this series. Faisal saved the team from follow-on in the first innings, scoring 83 runs at a strike rate of 98 and good counter attack against Shane Warne. In the second innings, Imran Nazir and Taufiq put together a partnership of 91 runs for the first wicket. Faisal Iqbal also batted well in the second innings, scoring 39 runs. Pakistan lost this match by 41 runs. Shoaib Akhtar bowled a fiery spell, taking 5 wickets for 21 runs, bringing Pakistan back into the game. Faisal Iqbal🇵🇰🏏فیصل اقبال

#OnThisDay in 1996, the second Test between England and India began at Lord’s with an emotional farewell for umpire Dickie Bird. In his 66th and final Test, Bird fought back tears as he walked through a guard of honour formed by both teams at the Pavilion steps.

During his first test hundred, Laxman batted with aggression and pride, unleashing a glorious array of strokes. He took apart Brett Lee (52 runs in 5 overs at one point), while even Shane Warne came in for punishment. The Australians were so frustrated that they turned to Ricky Ponting and Michael Slater late in the day. Australia v India, Sydney 2000
