VIDEO | Kolkata: Reacting to the Murshidabad railway crossing accident, TMC leader Mahua Moitra says, "An incident took place today in Govindapur, Murshidabad, where the railway gate was not lowered when a school van carrying five children was crossing. The children have died. It is a very sad incident. The Railway Ministry must clamp down on this system because anything that depends on human intervention, where a person is responsible for closing a gate, is prone to human error. It is high time we moved to a fully automated system, and I would urge the Railway Minister to treat this as a top priority. Unfortunately, safety issues in India continue to receive very low priority. Even in 2026, we are witnessing deaths like these, where a vehicle crosses a railway track and children lose their lives. We have also seen the KAVACH system. It is supposed to cover the entire railway network, but that has still not happened. While a high-speed railway line worth Rs 1.30 lakh crore has been built between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the cost of covering the entire Indian Railways network with KAVACH is around Rs 63,000 crore. Yet that has not been completed. We have no objection to high-speed railways, but we believe the Railways' priority should be safety measures, both on the tracks and in situations like this."

This video was shot by a train driver in Zimbabwe to show the decomposed railway system that now exists. Zimbabwe had one of the best railway systems in the world before independence, it competed with the British Railway system and its signals system was ahead of the British system. It was all destroyed under ZANUPF, there are no more regular passenger trains in Zimbabwe. The National Railways of Zimbabwe is run by the Government. Incompetent relatives and friends of ZANUPF politicians have been appointed as managers and directors, and they ran the company into the ground. The destruction of the railway system has made doing business in Zimbabwe expensive, but the ZANUPF politicians don’t care because they own transport companies that now move goods. Sadly, the last colonial ruler, Ian Smith, made a prophecy in 1980 which, at the time, was deemed racist. He said that under ZANUPF, using the railway system would be deemed dangerous, leading to the abandonment of railway services due to corruption and incompetence. That is exactly what happened. If Smith could talk, he would say, 'I told you so.' When I write about these things, I am called a Western puppet by ZANUPF, yet I am only calling for a return to normalcy that will benefit ALL Zimbabweans! No country succeeds economically without a railway system, destroying the railway system is one of the most UNPATRIOTIC things ZANUPF has ever done! What is patriotic about running a country without a decent railway system and making your country a laughing stock due to tragic failures caused by your corruption and incompetence? The board for the National Railways of Zimbabwe is chaired by ZANUPF politician Mike Madiro. President Emmerson Mnangagwa also appointed 82-year-old ZANUPF politician Tshinga Dube to the board. Before Madiro, the board was chaired by another ZANUPF politician, Martin Dinha. All they do is loot and pillage state enterprises. That is Zimbabwe’s story under ZANUPF, and the evidence is below in this video!

I have some great news for people of Bengaluru and Mumbai. From last 30 years, our two great cities were connected by only one super fast train -Udyan Express. Even that train took more than 24 hrs to reach. This forced most people to inevitably take bus or flights. Travel was expensive and uncomfortable. There was consistent demand from people of both the cities to start more train services. I had raised this issue multiple times in Parliament, PAC meetings, with Railway Board Chairman and with the Railway Minister, over the last four years. It is just baffling that such important economic nodes as Bengaluru and Mumbai didn’t have more than one direct super fast train from so long. Finally, like he is delivering on many important promises for the nation, our most dynamic and erudite Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnav Ji has made more super fast trains possible by increasing lane capacity in both Bengaluru and Mumbai Railway stations. I also thank our own Sri V. Somanna Ji for all his support. In the coming days, rail travel between the two cities will increase and will benefit lakhs of people. This is really concerning! Trackmen walk close to 15kms daily monitoring tracks, but they are being provided with such low-quality shoes. Ministry of Railways and Ashwini Vaishnaw should take this as a challenge to find and punish the officers and suppliers involved in this scam, but I won't be surprised if this trackman is rather fired for unknown reasons tomorrow. Kudos to him for coming forward and raising his voice against the corrupt babus and system. #IndianRailways

India is building the world’s highest and most challenging railway line in the Himalayas. Indian Railways is silently constructing the world’s highest railway line, much higher than China’s Qinghai–Tibet Railway "The Bhanupli–Bilaspur–Leh railway line" Stretching over 490 km through the Himalayas, the line will feature ~70 tunnels, covering more than 50% of the route length (approximately 260 km). The longest tunnel will be 27 km long. The project will also include 100+ major bridges, with the highest elevation reaching 5,359 meters near Taglang La Pass, the highest point any railway line in the world has ever reached. The project is also estimated to be one of the most expensive in Indian Railways history, currently costing around ₹1.3 lakh crore. For comparison, the 500 km MAHSR was initially estimated around ₹1.1 lakh crore. Currently, Phase 1 (Bhanupli → Bilaspur → Beri), spanning ~63 km, is under construction and expected to be completed soon, Hopefully, in the coming years, we will have a direct railway line connecting Leh.
