WASHINGTON, D.C. — A pan-Orthodox show of unity took place on Capitol Hill this week as faithful under the auspices of the Society of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco (Society of Saint John of Shanghai) used their constitutional right as Americans to raise their collective voices in support of religious freedom. Nearly 200 Orthodox Christians held dozens of meetings with legislators and members of their respective staffs in order to advocate for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has been suffering ongoing persecution from President Volodomyr Zelenskyy's government. The requests were simple: 1. Demand the immediate repeal and suspension of Law 3894 and put accountably measures in place to ensure foreign aid is not used to persecute Ukrainian citizens based on faith or religious affiliation. 2. The immediate release of Metropolitan Arseniy, and the release of other imprisoned clergy; for medical care to be provided to prisoners in accordance with international norms and the agreements Ukraine herself has signed. 3. An end to the impressment of clergy into the armed forces; that those serving would be taken out of combatant roles and placed in support roles (such as chaplains or medics — in accordance with international norms). The piloted flight featured a conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) demonstrating the robustness of Midnight’s landing gear which is capable of performing both vertical and conventional take-off and landing operations. Through our design and certification process, our team, government regulators and our customers, both civil and defense, have identified the importance of being able to conduct both vertical and conventional take-off and landing as part of normal operation of the aircraft as having CTOL capabilities in addition to VTOL provides operational flexibility and enhanced safety.
