I guess CTOL is important if your VTOL is inferior. Doesn’t look like the jetsons to me

Great accomplishment, but the wording is suggesting that the landing gear itself is capable of doing both CTOL & VTOL. Is this aircraft (N703AX) able to both or is it on the next iteration of the Midnight to be capable of both? Fair question to ask since N703AX was redesigned vs the 1st Midnight N302AX.

Over the past few months, our Midnight program has consistently delivered strong results. We're now routinely flying longer, faster & higher as we expand the aircraft’s operational envelope. Recent flights have exceeded 55 miles, more than 30 minutes of flight time, altitudes up to our 10,000-foot service ceiling, and speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour. These missions are providing valuable certification data, while closely mirroring the majority of mission profiles we expect in early urban deployment environments. Our next flight test phase with Midnight will be piloted VTOL, including full transition flights with our type certification intent four-blade aft propellers. Unlike the CTOL envelope that we are now close to completing testing on, the VTOL and transition flight regimes are not new for Midnight, as we have previously completed an extensive flight test campaign with Midnight without a pilot onboard. Our progression from non-piloted VTOL to piloted CTOL to piloted VTOL & CTOL campaigns is optimized for safety and disciplined execution that builds our readiness for commercial operations. Here are my key filters when evaluating the near-term, commercial potential of an eVTOL: - Needs to be piloted - Needs to be able to handle VTOL & CTOL in ordinary day-to-day operations to maximize functional flexibility, efficiency and increase safety - Needs to be ~6,000 lbs to handle four passengers - Needs to use battery cells that have a proven safe architecture, demonstrated reliability, decades of volume manufacturing and are sourced from a trusted manufacturer Delivering an aircraft that hits on all of those is our core focus. With our prior Midnight aircraft we completed the full VTOL envelope. Now we're working through the CTOL envelope with the new aircraft to ensure Midnight can reliably, efficiently and safely operate in and out of both traditional runways and vertical take off and landing locations.

The fully autonomous Talon-A2, equipped with landing gear, has successfully exceeded speeds of Mach five and completed its second autonomous landing at Vandenburg Space Force Base. This mission documentary follows the first recovered flight of TA-2, the result of five years of effort and dedication marking a pivotal moment in sustainable hypersonic flight test for our country. #WATCH | Assam is going to witness a historic moment today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will land at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh, where he will witness the aerial display of fighters, transports and helicopters. The ELF is the first of its kind in Northeast India. It has been specially designed and constructed in coordination with the Indian Air Force to support landing and take-off of military and civil aircraft during emergencies.
