Indiedev day 79: retro wireframe renderer with trackball functionality! As someone noted, my retro UI was missing rotating wireframes, I added one! In the drone loaout screen you can now see a very low poly version of the drone in proper retro fashion! I created a cross platform wireframe... renderer and trackball funcionality to interact with the mesh. For fun I also made a world space position floor function for the mesh vertexes so that the mesh jitters a bit when it rotates, mimicking the unstable 3D geometry from games in the 80s and before. The UI is still completely unfinished, but I decided to post the cool wireframe feature as I just finished it today. #indiegame #buildinpublicshow more

It was not the plan, but it is doable if it look great. It would be very clear to see the loadouts on the drone that way for sure!. I plan to keep the screen green only, but I can do different shades of green. Everything white in the screen is just placeholders. But yes, the drone mesh on the screen will change based on the loadouts

I made all the computer UI graphics recolorable, so I can easily tint the different computer systems with whatever hue I like. Adds variation to the whole thing to have the UI's different for sure!

✨ I made a little demo of #vibejam sponsor Tripo and how you can use it to generate assets for your games In this case I'm generating an apartment flat that's half destroyed and open for my drone sim to fly around, take cover and shoot at enemies from First I write the prompt and select Nano Banana to generate an image first, I get a few different ones, and I select the one I like Then that one is converted into a 3d object called a Smart Mesh Smart Mesh is different than regular image-to-3d models because usually you get issues with uneven polygon distribution, too dense geometry and poor edge flow, so while you think you save time with generating it with AI you end up doing lots of editing after to fix the topology which kinda defeats the point Smart Mesh doesn't have any of this, it's fast and clean low-poly models you can drop into your game Anyway, after generating the model I can then see it in 3d, and if I don't like it, regenerate it, or if I like it start texturing it Once that's done, I export it as a GLB, FBX or OBJ and drop it in (usually I use GLB as ThreeJS seems to prefer that), in my case I just drop the URL into Cursor and let it figure out the placement of the asset into my game!

$Two new #threejs projects on the way 😍 Working on my own gem renderer with a custom refraction material in TSL for #WebGPU, combining Screen Space Reflections + SSGTAO for superior results, as this allows diamonds to generate reflections on the metal mesh. The performance is incredible, even on gems with over 200 diamonds. This time, without any additional libraries. Just React Three Fiber and a lot of magic with custom shaders in TSL. GemGPU™ will also come with a very minimalist gem and metal customization panel that hides and lets the jewelry be the star. I also created a beautiful new stats panel that completely hides in the scene when not needed. It provides relevant optimization information, a performance gauge, summary and expanded modes, and day/night toggle. In the video, you can also see SSGI in action, with a pearl that reflects, in real time, all the objects in the scene, just as the objects in the scene reflect the pearl. It's magical. There are still a few things to fix, but I'll share the live link soon. Stay tuned.$

Here's what's coming next for the Fondant Custom Normals Addon: Adjustable 3D anime face proxy mesh! If you've tried the proxy method before, you know that it can be difficult to get good results as you need the right topology and shape for good Normals, and also for it to fit to the face properly for a clean transfer. The solution is to use two proxies: one for the shape, and one for the fitting. But that gets cumbersome! And it is still often unintuitive to get the correct shading shapes. The next major feature of the addon will be aiming to solve these problems by providing a convenient proxy mesh that you can fit to your character's face with some rig controls, and then handles the rest under the hood with Geometry Nodes. All the benefits of complexity without having to deal with it yourself! This clip shows the general idea, but is early stages. I'll be sharing more as I build it out.

I've added a function to propagate a gradient across the mesh (it follows the curvature of the hair), and then copy that gradient to the Windows clipboard as a transparent picture, for use as a selection mask in the image editor

The low poly meshes I created are much, much faster with physics / collision than those directly from the splat to mesh translation. Amazing. I now have an end to end workflow for generated 3D worlds with usable collisions. Works great in VR and mobile too ...

After a whole day of work made the inventory system with the ability to pickup and drop items. It was very boring and tiresome, but it was needed. With it I made a screen message system. You can also now interact with the rifle even when you are aiming and inspect items.

Played the Dead as Disco demo, it was so fun that i ended up modding in the Hyaku Shiki. There's also a feature that lets you use songs, so i used the Zeta op Eurobeat Remix by ZoZo for this clip. The songs included with the game play better but it's still a very cool feature!

Currently testing Hunyuan brand new 2.5 model for image to 3D. YUP! It's MAJOR improvement over 2.0, especially with making details look sharper, it can also reconstruct more detail. It also generates PBR materials now and you can automatically rig the character on the website. It's much better than Trellis and Tripo from my testing! Took it into Blender as well to compare Hunyuan 2.5 (on the left) and Hunyuan 2.0 (on the right). I wanted to see the mesh with a solid and material preview. If you're doing 3D printing, these would probably work very well. However...the biggest issue here is still topology which is a complete and utter mess, there's also still issues with texture projection...and the entire model is a single mesh, there needs to be a method to generate the model in parts BUT this tech is certainly improving. As someone that is also a 3D artist, I actually want to see what this tech is capable of generating to output 3D models.

💾 Okay I finally bought a Raspberry Pi 5 to make into a real retro computer as a proof of concept I love the Raspberry Pi much more than my ESP32 simply because I can SSH into it and it's just like a normal computer or server, the ESP32 required specific software to re-flash it everytime and it was TEDIOUS!!!! I need a fast feedback loop to develop with so all this flashing is too slow for me The Raspberry Pi 5 instead just runs Linux which then runs DOSBox-X to run Windows 3.11 install live downloaded from there so it stays fresh I then also got a Checkmate 19" IPS Retro Monitor by Stephen Jones (very indie and Kickstarter-style product) which is like a vintage retro PC monitor but with an OLED and it runs at 1280x1024, and the Raspberry Pi 5 has HDMI out so it works perfectly with it Then I got an 8BitDo retro IBM keyboard, but the spacebar broke, so I gotta send it back and get a new one, but it was great while it worked, so it's not in this video, and I got the 8BitDo retro mouse So altogether it's a proof of concept of a real vintage retro PC with internet and it works now My end goal is to make this into production and SELL it, not for money but more for fun because I think it should exist, just like Palmer Luckey's ModRetro Chromatic Gameboy-remake I'd go with something smaller than this 19" checkmate display though, it's great but too big for the Windows 3.11 era I think, more like 14" with a matching sized retro IBM-style keyboard and Windows 3.11 preinstalled (if legally allowed by Satya Nadella) with WiFi working out of the box We could also go with Windows 98/XP, because for me too Windows 3.11 was a very short time, so I too have vague memories of it, most of my computing memories is Windows 98/XP etc. Inside it could simply run on a Raspberry Pi 5 like here, which is easily powerful enough to run all of these OS'es I see many SF founders with Apple II's in their living room, and I guess cause Apple was more popular there back then, but in the rest of the world we were mostly IBM PCs and clones that ran Windows, so it's cool to have that as one retro object working with internet in your living room Anyway, step by step, we're here now 😊

Over the weekend, I added multiplayer "paint ball" dogfight to Tiny Skies, so players can fly around pelting each other with colourful paint balls, just for fun. I tried meshy and tripo to generate some 3D models for the game and the mesh vertices count are really high and lags the game a lot (probably because my game is a globe with thousands of objects - albeit mostly instanced). To my surprise, I found Gemini 3.1 Pro to be really quite good at generating good looking 3D models that are low in poly count. It generated 3D models at a much higher quality than Opus 4.6, Sonnet 4.6 and GPT 5.4. You can see the upgraded biplane models and some objects in the video below. #vibejam

Since I saw that you liked the video clip I made with Morpheus and the pills, I have created a longer video of the Matrix in anime style. It's not perfect, but with it I want to show the potential of the new Midjourney Editor and Retexture feature, coupled with Runway. With this technique I have used, you can create a version of any movie in the style you want. Cool, isn't it?

✨ Progress on my drone sim 🚁 Drone of War: Removed my old giant city FBX, because 1) it wasn't made by AI, 2) it was way too big Made the scenery a sandy war land now and just generating my own 3d assets now with Cursor and Tripo (sponsors of #vibejam) Also removed the drone sound, I thought a drone operator probably doesn't hear the drone sound anyway (only if it's near them) and I was inspired by Denis Bondarev to add some sine wave sounds and it made some buddhist type dings that I really like The paradox of war + buddhist sounds is kinda interesting combo, there's something disturbing about drone warfare where it's just people remotely controlling it I wanted to capture that in a game Also added real soldiers models (also generated), they're static though, but they do move, but I need to make them move somehow, not sure how yet, soldiers shoot at you and try take you down Also need to add tanks and other military vehicles that drive around And then I need to add more of a gameplay element, I still think about multiplayer where you choose to be either a drone or a soldier/tank/etc so it's drone vs everyone else! P.S. I can't participate in the #vibejam as the organizer of course but I still like to make some fun games just for fun and to show the tools!

#SEONGHWA visited Teotihuacán in the morning before leaving Mexico! ⭐️: Now I… It's my last day in Mexico today. I'm going back home soon. Right now I'm feeling very tired, you know? This morning, for a bit, I went to see the… like a mountain here in Mexico. It's that, um, what was it? That massive, the, uh, what was the name? That.. oh, what was it? I can't remember. Anyway, I went to that really big place, and it was very healing. But it was so high up that my legs hurt a bit from the climb up? I heard that it's the world's third biggest pyramid so, this morning I went, and I also took lots of pictures. Ah that's right! Someone commented the place names here. Teotihuacán. Ah, yes, the name's really hard! So, I visited Teotihuacán and it was really… I was completely overwhelmed there and seeing it I really kind of felt like, you know, a bit inspired and also healed. The way it survived the marks of time without crumbling, that was seriously cool/ impressive. As for the pictures, I think I'll upload them once I'm back in Korea. I'll organise them a bit first. Yes.

I 3d scanned my kid, again! Time flies fast, and now he is 7 months old. It's so exciting to preserve the memory with both 3D Gaussian Splatting and the mesh at the same time. I really wish I could render something super cool in blender, but I am so bad at it.
