lando reflecting on his season: “different parts of the season have been good and bad. the most important part of the season, the last two months, have probably been some of my best laps in quali, best races, when i needed it the most, which is a good thing. but there was certainly my fair share of mistakes and just not getting my head around this year's car, which is clearly a huge step better than last year's. but it didn't come without its difficulties. there's still been times, i wouldn't say plenty, when i wish, in montreal that kind of thing, when i could have made a different decision. but i think on the whole, between us two as drivers, we pushed each other a lot. we've done a very good job as a team. we still have areas to improve. but otherwise, it's certainly been my best season, especially the last couple of months, but still two to go”

I believe I won the championship this year my way, by being a fair driver, by trying to be an honest driver. At times, could I have been more aggressive and got off the brakes and had a few people over? I certainly could have done, and maybe I would need to do more of that in the future. But did I need to do it this year? Is that the way I want to go racing? Is that me? It's not. And I'm sure if you compare me, if that’s what you wanna do, to all the champions: have I been as aggressive as them at times? No. Have I been as daring as them at times? Justin Thomas is playing the Charles Schwab Challenge this week for the first time in 4 years. Ahead of the event, he said he builds his schedule around what best prepares him for the majors and it may change year to year: “Everybody's different. I would say the most, the first and foremost, most important thing that a lot of the top guys, a lot of, anybody that's in the majors, you're going to at least I would think, is what's going to prepare me the best for the major. So like I've had success in majors when I play the week before. “But playing San Antonio the week before the Masters for me doesn't feel like that's getting me prepared as much as possible for the Masters. Therefore, I don't play San Antonio. I had a year where the PGA, when it was at Southern Hills I wanted to play the week before Byron Nelson, it's easy travel, and I played the week before. So it's very situational of when you play, don't play in that regard. “But I mean I really, really, really try with all my might to not do four in a row, four in a row is like I'm not fun to be around. It's very taxing. So I try to cap it at three. “And, yeah, there's a lot of great tournaments, we're very fortunate to have to miss some great events, but you have to at some point. Jon Rahm reacts to what it was like playing in The Open alongside home crowd favourite Tommy Fleetwood: “The best way I can explain it, it was so intense that, without meaning any disrespect to England, I'm glad England didn't win that game because I would have been having a heck of a three days with the fans if they played Spain in the final. “You can hear it constantly no matter where he goes. It's constant unconditional support. The best part is they cheer him on, but they're respectful to everybody else playing. That's what makes it so fun for all of us. “No matter how late in the round, how bad things get, everybody is almost cheering for everybody in the group. Jordan Spieth is suspiciously confident in his game heading to the Masters and is clearly relishing the thought of Augusta National playing firm and fast. When asked about the state of his game, he said: “Great. Yeah. Feel good. As good as it's been in a long time coming into this week. And I like this place. I've been able to play this place when it's been good coming in. I've been able to play it well, and when it hasn't been good coming in, I've been able to play it well. So play to the right spots, wait for the chances. “Greens are going to be firm. It's going to be probably a more challenging green-in-regulation year. So it's going to be important to be coming out of the fairway just because it's going to be hard to get it to stay on some of the greens if you're not. And then it's going to probably get brown and crusty. But a lot of those fairways are sloped in a way that they play very narrow. Like 15 today, I thought I was going to be in the fairway undoubtedly, and I was off the fairway. Same on 10, same on 4. It can easily roll off" "Then the rough doesn't look as long as many other majors, but it's such a thick blade of grass that, even when the lie looks okay, it catches you so bad" "So I can see how in appearance it might be easier, but it's not. You need to play really good golf to shoot lower than 3-under. And then on top of that, those pin locations today are good ones. I mean, they're tucked. They're not easy" "There was somebody earlier in the week where there was some chatter where people thought 15- to 20-under was going to win. “This year you won Monaco, you won Silverstone, and you won the World Championship. What else is there left to do?” Lando: “I mean, they're really the best ones. Just downhill from here. I would have loved to make my life a bit easier and winning just earlier next time. But it's always more exciting when it kind of goes down to the final race, final few laps. It's more exciting for everyone, for you guys most of all. But I won ones that, again, people have dreamt of winning. There are some of the most incredible ones. The lap I did in Monaco in quali was the only other time, probably in the last 10 years, that I cried a little bit over something. Because there I proved myself wrong. It was one other moment this season that I proved myself wrong. Because I had that bad run of results. I just couldn't perform in qualifying. Qualifying has always been my strong suit, my best. Yeah, it's been my strength since I was in karting. All my qualifying results are my thing and they weren’t at the beginning of the season. So, when I went to the hardest track to do a qualifying lap in, I turned off my delta for the first time that weekend. So, I couldn't see if I was on a better lap, worse lap, whatever it was. It's not been my best track in the past. For me to then to go there and put that lap I put in at the end of qualifying was one of the best moments of my career in a way because it was the time I almost doubted myself the most ever. In the most important season that it turned out to be. Jordan Spieth shot a bogey free 62 yesterday, with 6 birdies in a row, and a closing 9 of 29, to climb into the top 10 of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
