I believe I won the championship this year my way, by being a fair driver, by trying to be an honest driver. At times, could I have been more aggressive and got off the brakes and had a few people over? I certainly could have done, and maybe I would need to do more of that in the future. But did I need to do it this year? Is that the way I want to go racing? Is that me? It's not. It seems to be working okay for me this week. But still a long way to go. QUESTION: Your post-shot reactions are the stuff of legend, but also David Feherty makes a point quite often of how quickly you recover and refocus on the next shot. Does this course force you to do that even more? HATTON: I mean, yeah. This golf course can be very frustrating. Obviously I lose my head around the simplest of golf courses. Maybe guys playing this week, it kind of brings them closer to my level of losing their mind. I'm happy with how I've played the last two days. Even today when it was difficult, I was in some difficult positions, I still didn't feel like I was hitting that bad a golf shot. But it kind of happens around here, and ultimately just happy with how the back nine played out. Yeah, looking forward to the weekend now. QUESTION: Speaking of the weekend, the expectation level starting the week probably didn't sound like it was that high based on what you said yesterday. Does it change with the way you've played through two rounds? HATTON: I mean, I would say that the last two rounds have allowed me to feel more comfortable with what I'm trying to do and feel with the golf swing, and generally I feel like I've hit a lot of really good shots. Kind of taking confidence from that and hoping that I can keep the same feelings going and keep hitting good golf shots. I feel like at times I've holed some nice putts, so it would be nice if I can keep doing that. Jon Rahm shot a 3 under par 67 to take a share of the lead at the PGA Championship. After the round, he praised the PGA of America for the set up of Aronimink this week: “I would like to know who came up with that, by the way. Honestly, when I heard people talking about 20-under par, it made me question my ability to read a golf course, because I was looking at the greens and where they could put pin locations and possible wind, I just -- my mind was never -- I actually got worried. I'm like if somebody shoots 20-under, the amount of records they're going to break this week would be unheard of. “You know why I think that can happen is also the fairways up here by the numbers are probably wide. They don't play as wide as they really are. Holes like 7, 10, 15, with how much slope you have to the fairway, you have to hit a very accurate golf shot to be in it. Like that, you can add too 2, 4 -- maybe not on 6, but like I said, 10, 12, 15, 16, right? “You need to hit -- with the slope of the fairway and the wind going with the slope of the fairway, it plays a lot more difficult than I think a lot of people would have foreseen at first with how much they're rolling out. And credit to the PGA for the setup. They found some incredible hard pin locations out there. Usually when we're practicing, we put our disks out, and there's definitely quite a few that I would have told Adam, man, there's no way they're going to put a pin there, and they did. So we found a way to keep it all close together. “As hard as it is to play, the challenge can also be kind of fun if you do well. That's probably the reason why the leaderboard is so bunched up and it's going to be such a good Sunday tomorrow. So in that sense, showmanship-wise, they've done a great job.” Jon was also asked if a win for him this week would be a boost for LIV Golf as they look for investment outside of the PIF: “Honestly, in a week like this, one, I'm thinking more about myself. I'm not going to take on anything outside what I can control when it comes to competing tomorrow. “If I do get it done and I sit here again tomorrow, then you can ask me the same question, and I'll give you an answer. But what it would mean for Spain as well in the grand slam tally and being the last leg of the grand slam for us as well, there's a lot of things that would mean a lot, but too much of it is out of my control. “So hopefully I can keep doing what I've done so far this week, especially today, and I get the chance to answer that tomorrow.” If Jon were to win tomorrow it would put him 3 legs towards the Career Grand Slam, complete the Grand Slam for Spain, and end the drought of major winners for LIV Golf that extends back to Bryson DeChambeau’s US Open win in 2024. Jon Rahm hit a flyer on the 7th hole today and then took a swing in frustration at the grass and ended up hitting a volunteer with his divot. After the round he was incredibly apologetic and fully owned up to his poor etiquette: “Thanks for reminding me of that. I got a flier on my second shot that went long. It's not a good spot. Just out of frustration, I tried to make an air swing, just over the grass, and I wasn't looking, took a divot, and unfortunately, I hit a volunteer. “Yeah, it hit him, and unfortunately it hit him in the shoulder and then the face. Which I couldn't feel any worse. That's why I was there apologizing. I did that when I was in my 20s, but I took a decision to really to maximize my time that I have here because it's not as long as you think and it's limited, you know. And I don't want to look back and be like, ah, if I just gave a little bit more here, I didn't sacrifice my time because I was committed elsewhere." "So I really focused in these last, you know, particularly these last 10 years, like get everything I can out of my performance. Then when I retire, then I can do whatever I want. After opening rounds of 67 and 68, Justin Thomas has shot his lowest 36 hole total of the season to be T3 at the Truist Championship. After the round, he said this is the best he’s felt since his return from injury: “Yeah, it's definitely, I would say so. I mean, I played really well last week, I just putted horrifically. I had a very tough time on those greens. But I played really, really, really well at Augusta and I just had zero to show for it. I drove it well, I felt like I hit a lot of good iron shots. Just was kind of one of those weeks where I couldn't get anything going, couldn't make that putt or get that ball up-and-down that I needed to to either keep momentum or get momentum. And that stuff just kind of, it wears. And a lot of people I think that's the difference of winning and 6th. But that's not, unfortunately, not the case. Scottie Scheffler has made golf look easy over the last few years, but he’s clearly frustrated with his game this week: “I felt like I was going to shoot about 90 today. “I don't know if you were out there on the course, but I was going to be hard to find if you were out watching my group. I felt like I got my first birdie putt of the day on the 13th hole. I maybe had one on 11, but I couldn't imagine I hit more than six or seven greens today. So around this golf course, with heavy rough and deep bunkers, you got to be hitting the ball in the right spots and for a long time today that was definitely not the case for me.” Scottie was visibly frustrated yesterday at the Memorial and had a long, heated discussion with his caddie Ted Scott after dunking a ball into the water. After rallying with 3 birdies in his last 6 holes today for a level par 72, he currently sits T20 and he was asked how proud he was to comfortably make the cut after looking in danger earlier in the round: “I think I grind like that every day. I think that's just part of the game. That's maybe some of the worst I've hit it in a couple years out there and I still managed to shoot even par around a golf course that requires to you strike the ball really well. "why? just hard work from my engineers and from myself to improve me as a driver" 👏🏻👏🏻 🗣️: friday night did you think you had the car to win the race? and do you have an explanation of the difference of pace between you and oscar? lando: "no, i didn't think so. especially after fp1, i didn't. actually, andrea wanted to make a bet with me because i was pretty disappointed with the pace and how the car was handling in fp1. it got a bit better in fp2, but still the ferraris were just on another level. and i really didn't expect to get as close as we did in quali. but the wind changed from friday to saturday, and the saturday wind really suited our car a lot more. we had a lot more confidence in driving the car, so i could push more. and then i certainly felt like i could be on pole yesterday, and i felt like i could win a race today. i think today the race pace was much better than i was expecting. the degradation was much better than i was expecting too. but it was probably one of my best performances personally in terms of driving the car. the fact i can keep up with oscar on this kind of track, where it's impossible to follow, impossible to overtake, i was within eight tenths or something for 40 laps almost. the fact i could do this is what gave me confidence that i would win the race no matter what, whether he boxed early or late or whatever. the pace advantage i had was huge today. but i don't know why. the cars are identical. and i've just been feeling very, very strong lately. i've worked on many areas from last year. i feel much more confident lately with how to extract performance. and i worked a lot with my engineers to understand this car, because it's certainly not an easy car to understand and figure out on how to drive on the limit consistently. so why? just hard work from my engineers and from myself to improve me as a driver and improve my driving. and that is the answer"

24 year old Spaniard David Puig shot a 3 under par 67 to climb inside the top 10 of the PGA Championship, just 3 shots off the lead. It’s the highest position he’s held after any round of a major and he spoke about how that feels: “No, yeah, very excited. I get up every day for weeks and days like today. I'm really excited about the weekend. I think obviously I could do some things better, hopefully the weekend. “But I think I've been getting a little better year after year, and I definitely got to this major championship as best prepared as I ever was, and compared to the other ones that I played. “So really excited to have some sort of late tee time on a Saturday at a major championship, and I'll give my best and hopefully it's good.” David played with 21 year old Aldrich Potgieter today and they are both the new school of modern player, who absolutely send it off the tee. He spoke about that: “No, yeah, it was awesome. He's a really talented player. He hits it really far. I think I hit it pretty far, but he's definitely longer than me. And, yeah, I mean he -- obviously the last couple holes, with a couple bogeys, but he played unbelievable golf today and yesterday. “He's pretty much accomplished a lot of things already, but he's got a really, really bright future in front of him. So amazing player.” David won the Australian PGA on his debut as a DP World Tour member, and the golf world is already fully aware of his talent. I think last week gave me a lot of confidence that I can mix it with the best guys. Just wanted to really carry that into this week the best I could. I think I got out of my own way the first two rounds and I started thinking about it yesterday. Yeah, it was just good to play like that today when I was being pushed by two of the best players in the world. JERRY: I remember vividly following you when you won your first event on the PGA TOUR in Bermuda. On that final hole, you were visibly nervous on your second shot. You looked like you were immune to nerves all week long. How does that come about? HERBERT: I think it was a bit of a trick in hiding it. I was definitely feeling it out there. I can only do what I can do. I was able to take care of what I needed to do today pretty well to get me over the line. I knew it wasn't going to be a day where even par, 1-under was going to get it done for me. I knew I had to go out there and get it. Just kept pushing myself the whole way, and here we are JERRY: Did you ever hit some shots, notably the bunker shot in addition to so many others this week, where you just shook your head, like, I can't believe how good this is going? HERBERT: There's definitely a lot of shots -- I can think of the first shot on 10, I kind of pull one, and you're asking for it to get a good lie in the hay, lands in the rough and kicks all the way down there, you get on the green and make eagle. It was one of those weeks, just when you needed a good break. I think of the 6th hole today up the hill, the par-5, it finishes half a foot inside the short stuff and I can get it greenside. I'm looking at the lie, a foot right of that, and it could have been a load of trouble. I played great this week, but also, I got a lot of good breaks, which is really nice. Anthony Kim talks about how it feels being on a team for the first time on the LIV Golf League: “I'm just one day in, but obviously I wouldn't have accepted to be on the team if I didn't like all three of the guys. I've gotten to play with Thomas now quite a bit, and just being around guys that I want to hang out with off the golf course is the reason I chose to be on a team because obviously I had an option to stay wild card. “But honored to be a part of the team, and I think as I get better, the team will have more chances to win.” He then spoke about his expectations and goals for the season: “I'm delusional enough that my expectations were the same today as they were two years ago. But now I'm actually able to produce some of the good shots. “I've been working hard, and it's nice to see rounds like today where they could have been much lower, but it was still solid and on a tricky day. “I think I have a lot of opportunity in front of me, and if I just keep working, I don't see why I can't be contending on Sundays. “My goals are the same as they were when I first joined LIV. I think it provides quite a nice bit of variety with shorter par-4s, a couple of longer par-4s. The par-3s, there's three pretty long ones and a shorter one. "I think in this day and age I'm not sure if it's going to test all aspects of your bag. There's going to be a lot of -- again, as I said, strategy off the tee is pretty nonexistent. "It's, basically, bash driver down there and then figure it out from there, which I think is a lot of these newer -- newly renovated -- I think about Oak Hill in 2023, here. When these traditional golf courses take a lot of trees out, it makes strategy not as much of a concern off the tee. "But the greens are -- as I said at the start, the greens are the main focus this week, and I think getting yourself in the right sections of the greens, making sure you leave yourself below the hole for the most part.
