The Kurds continue to be betrayed by their allies. 🇮🇶 🇺🇸 🇮🇷 If Lebanon is excluded from the ceasefire in the regional war, so too is northern Iraq. During the second half of April, Iran launched a series of attacks against Kurdish militias that were being armed by the US for a hypothetical ground operation into Iran. However, Trump’s recent statements regarding his relationship with the Kurds suggest a distancing from these militias, after admitting to having armed them prior to the protests in Iran at the start of the year. Washington has also announced that the Pentagon’s FY2027 budget almost completely eliminates direct funding for the Peshmerga (from $61 million in 2026 to $1.35 million), centralising aid in Baghdad rather than directly supporting Kurdish forces. This leaves Iraqi Kurds in a position of greater dependence on the Iraqi federal government and Iranian Kurds with no chance of extending their prospects of creating a nationalist project in Iran in the event of a hypothetical collapse.

He shares a personal account: "A friend told me they had kidnapped his 13-year-old niece. On top of everything, they were protecting the Assad regime and standing by its side," he says. Also says: "The Syrian revolution will restore my identity and protect my children after me. This revolution represents all Syrians, and as a Kurdish Syrian citizen, I stand with the Syrian revolution. You accuse us of betraying the Kurdish cause, but in reality, it is you (referring to the SDG) who have betrayed the Kurds". He also points out that the leaders of the PKK/YPG/SDG are Marxist-Communist Kurds.

The Syrian Government has intensified their efforts to further marginalise the Kurdish people in Syria. By orders of the Syrian Government, the Justice-Palace (Courthouse) building had its Kurdish (&Arabic) elements in the building and the walls removed and replaced it with English and Arabic elements. The courthouse of a Kurdish region and city now does not allow the use of the Kurdish language - a direct violation of the integration agreement. Now there is popular unrest in the city. Kurdish residents have torn down the sign. Syrian Government affiliates are again issuing calls for a tribal mobilisation against the Kurds.
