Introducing a new type of civic tech made possible by AI. Every citizen should have a live, systems view of their government and today we bring that to SF! Track gov entities, spending, news, and more in real time. With LLMs, we can bring this to every city. Who's next?

Some of my favorite features are the latest news summaries, interactive budget donut, and departmental spending breakdowns - including contracts to non-government entities like nonprofits. Check it out here:

One year ago today I launched v1 of the gov graph, which is also how I met @maskys_. He cold DM'ed me after seeing the post, and we've been working together ever since. If you like what we're building and want to help usher in good government in the age of AI, hit me up.

Really like this idea. I’d also like to track politicians and their promises made vs delivered on. Maybe even a political score card for each politician.

That would be awesome!

If you build it let me know!

@m_adams @adamkillam I built that many years ago, when I was in my first year of software development

@m_adams Been meaning to clean up the repo to make it usable again

@m_adams Interesting!

Love this. Similar spirit behind my POC (1.5 years ago) Civic Agentcy @SCTYinc, making policy more accessible and legible:

@SCTYinc Thank you! That's a neat project

The Gov Graph has come a long way! excited for what follows ⚒️🔭

I'm with you 🤝

Nice work!

Thank you! More good stuff on the way 🌉📈

This looks extremely impactful! Let us know how we can help out at @swarms_corp with your agent infrastructure needs. Website:

@swarms_corp Neat. Thanks mr swarms, I'll check it out

@swarms_corp Of course! Let me know how we can help : )

Congrats Michael! Really impressive work. You and Kifah have worked persistently on this, and it shows. This is a huge milestone for civic tech and SF citizens. It creates equal footing between our gov and citizens to work together on improving the city.Excited for the next step!

Behind every good civic tech project is a hot fiancée providing moral support 😘

and lots of food support too! Well worth it though!

😋

@elena_turkalj a rich man, i see

@elena_turkalj In the ways that matter most, absolutely!

👑

Thank you sir 🤝

This is cool! How do you manage data ingestion and accuracy of data? Assuming these numbers and connections change over time

We always pull from official data sources like Sometimes we find inaccuracies and work with the city to understand or fix them

So great to see the progress here! Cool that you're jamming with @maskys_ now too :)

@maskys_ At its best, Twitter is a wonderful serendipity machine. Glad we're working together!

this is really cool; the visualization is interesting, what do the arrows between the levels means?

Thanks! It means either: elects, appoints, oversees, or advises. You can hover over the arrows on desktop, but the graph tab for each entity shows more details on both desktop and mobile

cool!

Thank you sir! Lmk if you have any feature requests

This is epic! Great job, Michael

Thank you Timour!

This is amazing! This clearly visualizes things in a very nice UI. Are there any plans to do the core framework/libs open source - I can see it being used widely. Maybe I would love to contribute to this.

Code is still actively under development and not ready to open source yet, but I hope to in the future!

Super interesting - really looks like it could become a bloomberg terminal for the citizens of SF

That's the plan 👀

This is such a great step forward in the right direction. Amazing work @m_adams and team. This is laying the foundation for what should be the future for us, where we can also simulate the impact of policies being discussed, and get the citizens of the country to understand the impact of it and eventually even possibly vote on it, so the politicians and policy makers also receive that feedback before policies are pushed forward.

The future will be great if we make it so 📈

this is how you responsibly leverage LLMs — demystify complex systems!

Thank you - that's the plan!

Please do Colorado cities next.

Alright, first vote for CO! Denver?

@balajis check this out

@balajis Any proper network state better have tech like this! I thought my web3 friends would appreciate it 🤝

Love it! Some @claudeai under the hood?

@claudeai You bet! Claude was a trusty pal along the way

Hi. This is awesome. Can I do that for India's corrupt government!?

@erichhartmann Lexington ky

@erichhartmann First vote for Lexington - nice!

How about London? Are you opensourcing anything so people can contribute new cities?

Not yet but that's our intention. First vote for London!

Nice, really like the project, highly ethical use of AI to create civic engagement. Would be happy to spend some time in code for something like this

Can it track flows of money? NGO relationships?

We have the data for this and show some of it now, but we'll add more money data viz in the future!

@zeddling04 @WoleOlamide The Kenyan government needs to get tracked like this

This is so cool! Thank you for building this.

You bet! More good things on the way 🌉📈

Nice.. I'm working on a very similar project. This what my LLM generated when it analyzed SF and California governments

@vitality_init_ Insightful!

@tobyshorin 👀@mmazco

@tobyshorin @mmazco Let me know what you think!

@steadydrift @tobyshorin nice! assuming all the data is public? there's quite a lot of things happening here from what i can see. i have built some mini apps that support some of these areas for my own experiments with civic tech and public discourse.

@steadydrift @tobyshorin Yep - all from public data and law

@steadydrift @tobyshorin cool! would be keen to jam.

@steadydrift @tobyshorin Let's do it!

@tobyshorin nice

@tobyshorin Thank you!

@gearside this but for Sydney etc

@gearside 🇺🇸🤝🇦🇺

@BrianRoemmele

@BrianRoemmele Check it out and let me know what you think! Feature requests welcome

pls open source

Not quite ready for that but it’s the long term plan

hey i’m working on a totally unrelated research problem but it’s also a public service and we have been trying to put together a graph that communicates the problems clearly. you’ve done an amazing job. any chance you would open source the visualizations part of the code?

Not ready to open source just yet but planning to in the future

awesome!

Loved seeing a demo in SF! Awesome 🔥

Thank you - I appreciate it!

the gov's are not going to like this... spending accountability is vary bad for them. However, this would be amazing for private companies to track themselves and improve.

You'd be surprised - I've gotten a very positive response from many folks in government!

@TipTopToad This is terrific @m_adams What would it take to replicate this for my city / state? (Austin / TX). Is this open sourced by change? :-) (asking for a friend)

@TipTopToad Not yet open source but something I'm thinking about for the future. We're expanding to NYC first, then we'll look at Texas!
