🚨UPDATE: A few years ago, Uganda Government through Ministry of works and Transport introduced what they termed as "Digital Number plates" According to the government the essence of introducing digital number plates was to fight criminality because they are trackable/monitored. Digital number plates (ITMS) in Uganda cost UGX 714,300 for new vehicle registration. For existing vehicle owners replacing their old plates, the cost is UGX 150,000 for cars and UGX 50,000 for motorcycles. Now thugs stole someone's number plates when he reported the case to police and URA here is the response he got👇

He said the name came from a presidential requirement for a tampering alert: “And that was how it came to be called digital number plates, that it would be able to trigger a signal.”

Digital number plates cannot be tracked. An oversight visit to police found that tracking is done by a separate device installed in the vehicle, not the number plate itself. #TheCapitalGang #CapitalFM
