everyone just decided git sucked or something?

> new version control system > built from scratch

This seems to be a solution looking for a problem to solve.

@spyced How origin-al

On github 😭

Unity MCP = Paid, Unity Plastic = Paid Unreal MCP = Free, Unreal Lore = Not only free, OS. Unity is cooked...

Asking completely objectively, can someone tell me why this is or isn’t better than git?

lore going full open with documented formats is the move. teams running agent fleets on their own metal need something they can mirror and audit, not another opaque hosted graph.

@theo you're gonna have a ton of os version control videos to make

Oh my fucking god finally.

I saw a Perforce booth on one of your fests last year 🤔

@TimSweeneyEpic I just love the fact that version control is experiencing a sort of a renaissance... It's gonna get cheaper and cheaper for folks to build their own, or at least experience with other systems.

How does this deal with merge conflicts?

So, you develop a version control system, an alternative for git, and yet you version control and release it with … git? 🤔

@gitopiaDAO git? lore? sounds familiar.

Need a local server option to keep sensitive projects internal

Good! but when I look your cargo file ,for a newly open sourced project, several core crates appear to be far behind current stable releases. Is there a deliberate policy of sticking to those versions?

great!

Finally

You guys are disconnected, nobody in the game industry big enough uses Git to store Unreal projects, everyone went the Perforce route, which is better but still very painful. Unreal tries solving that by providing a free P4 alternative that just works.

lore is such a great name for this

Git has been eating alot of L’s

Just the fact we now have something open and purpose built is such a relief. Game to iterate!

Version control is one of those invisible systems that can completely change how creators build together. Open tools like this can make larger, more collaborative worlds easier to manage over time.

Claude Mythos leak update:

No wonder i’ve been getting so many emails from perforce desperately trying to lock me into their ecosystem

I genuinely hope you go bankrupt so gaming can be free from your Unreal AI slop

Not another one 😫

Are you guys planning on selling a service around this?

I wonder how good the git integration is. At least now I can forget everything I know about Perforce admin and bridging it with other SCMs soon. Only UE studios were still using Perforce at this point is my experience.

@Scobleizer This will be interesting to try out, seems it’s more optimized for LFS and large binaries, doesn’t look like it’s built around agents or for them

@HSVSphere

I've got no issues using git lfs with unreal. of course when you have a team of 300 this might be better. we'll see.
