Today is Meru’s birthday! Even while wrestling with blank pages, she keeps turning the everyday lives of Sensei and her friends into stories full of laughter and heart-fluttering moments. Deadlines, all-nighters, the pain of creation… But for Meru, drawing is her own kind of “freedom” and a way of looking at the world. Every small outing and conversation with Sensei will one day become a scene in her manuscript, too. Will today also become one more page in Meru’s story? Korbessa is rarely seen without her mini-me, Wangalla. She has well and truly adopted the younger elephant as a little sister – but sisterly love only goes so far! One area where Korbessa refuses to budge is hose possession. As much as she adores Wangalla, she covets her personal water fountain even more. Little Wangalla doesn’t mind; she knows there’s plenty of water for everyone and the hose (which we know, we know, needs some patching!) is of little consequence. Today's lesson: the playful way to cover yourself in mud! Three-month old Kipekee is the youngest member of our orphan herd and the newest addition to our foster programme. Rescued in June, she arrived in poor condition, with sunken cheeks and no fat reserves, having survived for a number of days without milk or protection. Once rescued, it took patience, gentle support - plenty of milk - and all Kipekee's energy for her to begin regaining her strength and condition. She still has a way to go, but as you can see, she's enjoying life at the Nursery where she is universally adored by all. Rise and shine with our elephant family! There's nothing quite like the gentle chaos of elephant morning routines. Our devoted nannies can't wait to check on their favourite baby - Nyambeni with her protective instincts and caring Muridjo, are both eager to start another day of looking after little Kipekee. Kipekee may be the youngest member of our foster programme, but she's certainly not short of devoted caregivers ready to guide her through each precious day of growing stronger. It’s hard to believe someone would dump their old and sick dog out onto the streets to fend for themselves but that’s what I found today. A lovely kind local lady had found this tiny little dog and asked us to help after being unable to find the owner. She was tiny and shaking but it’s only when I got her in that j saw just how bad she was. She’s very old and her fur is pretty much all gone from the 1000s of ticks and fleas sucking her blood. She’s very sick and she also has a major leg trauma. Who knows how long the little girl has been out on the streets battling to stay alive. Her nature is so nice and gentle and she loves human touch. I don’t know what Dolly Parton’s back story is but I do know her future will hopefully be very bright. You can see from my hands on her head just how small she is. She’s all wrapped up after her bath and sleeping tight after a good meal and her full medical treatment will start tomorrow. Come on Dolly you got this❤️

At first glance, she seemed gone — but a faint pulse and shallow breath gave us a sliver of hope. With time running out, we orchestrated a rescue, knowing her chances were slim. Today is Europe Day. And Ukraine is marking it not formally or through sloganeering, but fully aware that we are already an inseparable part of the European family. We are defending Ukraine, our independence, our future – and in doing so, we in Ukraine are defending our Europe. A Europe of which Ukraine has been and will remain a part. From the first days of the full-scale war until today, Europe has stood with Ukraine. And this is not charity – it is a choice made by Europeans: to stand on the same side as the brave and the strong – the Ukrainians who are fighting today for peace and true protection against tyranny, not only for themselves, but for the entire continent. And we will inevitably defend our state, our people, and our right to freely choose our future – a future in Europe. Glory to Ukraine!

We had a brave little poppet in the park today - new girl Suzi 🐶😍 Her siblings passed away from parvo but she has been living with other dogs and learned how to commincate from them. She was a little nervous and politely asked Pancho and Tucker to give her space. But then the treats came out and she decided to be brave. Suzi already has a home lined up from our waiting list - a lovely family who have been patiently waiting for a rescue rather than buying from a breeder. They will be getting a little bundle of love and sweetness. And Suzi’s life has transformed forever 💜

Today we say goodbye to a truly beautiful soul. Chella Smith has been called home to be with the Lord. She was a caring, God-fearing woman — full of faith, love, and strength. A devoted wife, a loving mum, and a bright light who touched the lives of so many. Her kindness, her spirit, and her presence will never be forgotten. We lift her family up in prayer and ask our community to do the same during this incredibly difficult time. Gone too soon. Never forgotten. Safe in the arms of Jesus.

Sometimes when we rescue dogs, it really is a life-or-death situation and that's very much the case for this tiny little girl who got reported to us yesterday. At first locals and the authorities told us that she had been poisoned so it was her race to empty her stomach and try and keep her alive. The team had been battling for the last 24 hours and it was very much touch and go. Today we've seen some amazing progress and her first tail wag! She's been undergoing a series of tests to eliminate any possible poisons and she's also been analyzed on her brain. Whatever happened, this dog has definitely had a massive trauma but she seems to be just about through the worst of it. It's way too early for her to regain use of her limbs yet but it was good to see that she was able to lift her head today at least. This is very much a dog who wants to live and wants to get better but her body just won't let her yet. There is so much fight left in her though. I called her Espresso because she looked dark with a little hint of coffee on her and then I thought I'd give her her full name of Espresso Martini 🍸 ☕️ I would say her road to recovery will take weeks but the medical team are hopeful after her first 24 hours of progress that there might just be a future for this beautiful little girl ❤️🤞
