Introducing Legend Spark! It’s a React Native desktop framework for really fast desktop apps with React Native and Expo. The biggest gaps in RN on desktop have been getting started, Expo compatibility, and modules. So I’m trying to fix all of that. Let's make apps super fast!

Hey React Native devs 👋 I recently built a very cool app with React Native Expo—it’s amazing how powerful and easy it is! 🚀 Everything you can do with React Native CLI, you can do with Expo too. If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s the time! #buildinpublic Expo React Native

Seriously though, React Native apps can be faster than native apps 🔥. I'm making a React Native macOS diffing app that git diffs a folder, and renders and syntax highlights it, in 200ms. And look at that scrolling perf 😍 "React Native is slow" is wrong.

React Native on desktop, powered by Rust + GPUI 🦀⚡️ Reanimated + Worklets are alive: springs, orbiting particles, and scroll-driven motion—all running on the UI thread, even while JavaScript is busy. A sneak peek at react-native-gpui 👀

If typing fast in your app feels like wading through mud, you need useNativeState. Every TextField in RN has felt slightly off for years; Expo UI just shipped the fix with the new useNativeState hook. Instead of trying to keep the native input and react state in sync on each keystroke, useNativeState handles the state completely on the native side. React (JS thread) only reads the value when it needs it e.g. onSubmit, using a lightweight reference. Make your app faster, read the full blog ↓

It’s really satisfying when you can offer a native experience in React Native and encapsulate it for reuse. React Native is Native.

What if AI chat apps were actually fast? I'm making an open source demo app in React Native macOS with instant load from disk (no cache), real native liquid glass UI, only 17 MB app size, and under 100 MB of RAM. Web wrappers are slowing us down. Please let's make apps faster!

Opus 5 is insanely good at building Expo apps. Here's app, rebuilt fully in expo. Everything is real native UI There hasn't been a better time to build apps.

With SceneKit deprecated, Three.js + React Native is the best tool I am aware of for building immersive 3D experiences into native apps.
