Codes are limited at Beyond doing your work, it also has near perfect feature parity on Excel. Directly edit, import, and export files. That means there is no reason to go back to Excel. It's like going back to VScode after Cursor.

It's early and Shortcut is far from perfect. Shortcut gets lazy with formatting, struggles with long multi-round conversations, and runs into context limits on large PDFs. There is a clear path to disrupt Excel, but for now, I'll settle for making @satyanadella dance

I’ve been playing around with Shortcut to see what I can have AI build for me and the end product is wild. I wanted to stress test Shortcut into building a master excel file for everything I would need for an investment committee. I had it build: 1) A 3-statement model 2) Toggles for multiple cases 3) Charts and tables for IC Memo must haves - revenue by segment, customer concentration, etc. 4) EBITDA Bridge charts 5) A Capital Structure chart You can pretty much have Shortcut model for you while you go and focus on the written parts of the IC Memo. Lmk if you’re interested in learning more, the key here is once you’re a wizard at prompting, the models are incredible.

I used Claude Code Skills + souped up PDF parsing to create an M&A deal comp agent 🤖 Given a directory of public M&A filings (DEF 14A), it parses and analyzes each pdf, and generates an Excel sheet with deal terms and comparables. 1️⃣ The native parsing is pypdf which sucks, so I swapped it out with LlamaIndex semtools. This uses LlamaCloud for parsing - letting it handle deeply complex financial tables, charts, and anything else you throw at it. 2️⃣ Claude has native skills to write Excel spreadsheets!
