All of my devices are being killed on storage by codex / claude worktrees I would love for this to solve that issue, moving older / archived worktrees while still being accessible if needed Is that a viable use case here?

Jason Zhao4 days ago

yes! we do this from time to time, you can try it for yourself for free!

Curious how an agent running grep across 10k uncached files feels on a streamed mount.

quite fast, i think you would be surprised. good network connection always helps.

It’s the middle-out compression, isn’t it?

Concept is super cool! I do a similar thing I think using the GDrive plugin for Windows Explorer, but I’d be open to switching if I knew what this can do better.

Jason Zhao's profile picture
Jason Zhao4 days ago

theres a smart caching and look ahead read happening which makes it feel instant. you never have to wait for anything again. and its free to try out, happy to chat more if you have any feedback

will give it a try - gotta support 🇨🇦 tech! if it works as well as you say, i’d buy 8tb tonight 💯

Genuinely curious: how does Space differ architecturally from LucidLink? LucidLink has offered a mounted cloud filesystem with block/byte-range streaming, local caching and live collaboration since 2017/18 — and now supports agent workflows too. What’s the key breakthrough here?

Jason Zhao's profile picture
Jason Zhao4 days ago

optimized for low bandwidth workflows, lucid barely works unless you have over gigabit. we also have benchmarked them across seventeen application workloads end to end. ten source builds, four data and media tests, three development-server workflows. and outrank them drastically. will be releasing the bench soon.

Get a NAS? This is what $24/tb if I read correctly? You can set up a NAS with 100Tb+ for what you’ll pay in 1 month.

Opening files before the upload finishes is wild. If an agent starts transcoding a 100GB file while another machine is still uploading or replaces it midway, does Space pin the reader to one version and wait for missing chunks, or can it see partial or mixed bytes?

have you tested this yet with model weights?

Jason Zhao's profile picture
Jason Zhao4 days ago

we architected the filesystem to support it and have benchmarked a new build with many devs/startups to gauge demand. atm the prosumer version available on the site isnt optimized for it. whats your specific use case?

plu's profile picture
plu4 days ago

@local0ptimist I don't have the hardware to run the latest models locally so I spin up some instances on to test them out, the annoying thing is that I have to redownload them every time and they are very large (50-100GB) and bandwidth on vast is not free

Jason Zhao's profile picture
Jason Zhao3 days ago

@local0ptimist One of the use cases that we've seen most interesting are people porting data in and out of VMs. Similar to what you're describing?
