This was one of the most emotional moments in the history of reggae dancehall music. The day the greatest reggae DJ of all time was crowned by another great DJ. This was Daddy U-Roy being honoured and crowned by the legendary Shabba Ranks. U-Roy did not just influence reggae DJing and dancehall music, he defined them. He was the foundation, the blueprint, the godfather of the entire dancehall culture. Every deejay who came after him walked through the door that he opened. David Rodigan introduced him to the audience on this historic day, and many greats were there, including iconic sound system selector Rory Stonelove, to honour this great man and celebrate a living pillar of Jamaican music history. It was a moment of deep respect for one of the true architects of reggae dancehall culture. Then Shabba Ranks performed his famous dancehall anthem about respecting the elders and pioneers of reggae DJ culture titled, Respect. In the song, Shabba pays tribute to foundation artists such as U-Roy, recognising the legends who built the foundation of reggae dancehall music long before the new generation arrived. Daddy U-Roy was crowned by Shabba Ranks on 29 November 2019 at the Reeewind 10th Anniversary event at Club Amazura in Queens, New York. The emotional tribute was organised by Irish and Chin Promotions. It was a powerful moment of respect, humility, and acknowledgement from one great to another. Daddy U-Roy died on 17 February 2021 in Kingston, Jamaica, at the age of 78. Rest in Peace Daddy U-Roy, may your soul continue to rest in peace. I have looped one of my favourite reggae dancehall songs by Daddy U-Roy from the early 1980s, called Jah Jah Call You, at the end of the video. A timeless classic from one of the true foundations of reggae and dancehall culture.

Sierra Leonean food is the best in the world! No to me say, na National Geographic! National GeographicTravel says in all of West Africa, only one restaurant made it on their list of 21 best restaurants in the world for 2024. That restaurant is in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and it is Cole Street Guest House. I had the pleasure of dining at Cole Street twice in the past month, once for dinner and another for brunch. I had intended to go a third time, but as is often the case with the best of the best, Cole Street was fully booked for private dining. This dine n dash aka stealing story went viral, and now I understand why. Three of them dined quite well at this particular restaurant running up a bill of $262 with the intention to just leave the restaurant without paying a cent . Problem 1: they filled out a reservation card with all their information. Problem 2 : they were on video leaving the restaurant without paying. Problem 3 : they bragged about it on social media tagging the restaurant and thanking them for the free food . So guess what happened 😊? Do restaurants need to have security in place at the door to prevent this from happening? I think they should.

Raif is an Israeli-Druze chef who just opened an amazing restaurant in NYC called Taboonia. On October 7th, Raif was at the Nova Music Festival serving food with his brother when Hamas attacked. The terrorist murdered his friend Erick Peretz and his 16-year-old daughter Ruth - who was in a wheelchair with cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. I am saddened to hear of the passing of Jamaican reggae music legend and international superstar Jimmy Cliff, whose real name was James Chambers. He was 81 years old, and he died from pneumonia after suffering a stroke. I grew up on his music, with my parents playing it in the 1970s and 1980s when I was a young boy in Murewa. I remember being in grade six in 1983, wondering who wrote No Woman, No Cry between him and Bob Marley because both sang it with such gusto. I only learnt later that it was written by Marley, who gave the credit to “Tata” Ford, his childhood friend from Trench Town, so that Ford could use the royalties to run a soup kitchen for the poor in Trenchtown. Jimmy Cliff became known outside the reggae movement with Many Rivers to Cross and other classics like You Can Get It If You Really Want. But what placed him at the intersection of global music and film was his hit song The Harder They Come, which was the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. Jimmy Cliff was the star of that film. He played the lead character, Ivanhoe “Ivan” Martin, in the 1972 Jamaican crime drama. The film made him an international icon and helped introduce reggae culture to the rest of the world before Bob Marley emerged as the first Third World global superstar from reggae. However, Cliff was already touring internationally in the late 1960s, and his performance of Many Rivers to Cross is often credited with opening doors for Jamaican music globally. He was one of the few Jamaican artists to receive the Order of Merit, Jamaica’s third-highest national honour, recognising his contribution to music and culture. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, cementing his status as one of the most influential artists of his era. His death is a moment to acknowledge that a generational icon, who opened the doors for Jamaican artists, has passed. mark: we went to a restaurant that day. it was me, jaemin, jisung, and chenle who went. and it was a really delicious restaurant. we’re the kind of people who absolutely hate getting up in the morning, but that day, we all just shot right up and arrived at the perfect time. it was unbelievable. we were even more punctual than for our schedules. so we went there still sleepy, but the food was seriously delicious. it was truly legendary.

NEW: A restaurant owner canceled his Easter plans to fulfill a dying man’s final wish. Frank Ozimek was in hospice during the final weeks of his battle with cancer, where nurses cared for him and treated him like family. Before he passed, he asked his brother for one thing: Feed the nurses on Easter. There was one problem. Every restaurant they called was closed for the holiday. Then they reached Tommy Milani, owner of Sub Delicious in New York. His response: “Absolutely, whatever you need.” Milani put aside his own Easter plans, opened the restaurant on his day off, and made pizzas for the entire hospice staff. This is beautiful.

If you ever visit Udaipur, the Ambrai Restaurant (at night, for dinner) has to be in your list of must visit places. The dining courtyard is just next to the Lake Pichola, almost at lake level. The food is great, the service, impeccable, and the experience, magical. There’s another very famous restaurant, the Upre (much talked about on social media), but imo Ambrai has the better views of The City Palace and the Lake Palace.

This is how Gujaratis welcome people from outside their state in their region. A girl from MH opened a small food stall in Gujarat. She was new to the place and she recounts how the restaurant people opposite to her food stall came over, ate at her food stall, filled her bottle with drinking water from their restaurant, and informed her that if she was short of veggies she could approach them, without any hesitation. I have worked in Bhavnagar for four years. All I got from Gujaratis there was love, inclusiveness and camaraderie. Gujaratis are awesome.❤️

Opening a new restaurant during a war is more than a business decision — it’s a statement of resilience, hope, and community. I just spent $32 on a fish and chips lunch at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant at the wharf in DC, and it’s not the one you think. I knew about Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s kitchen restaurant at the wharf in Washington DC, but I didn’t realize that they also put in a Gordon Ramsay fish and chips right across the walkway. it is kinda like what would happen if a fast food restaurant changed their oil appropriately. The food comes out fast, the batter is light and fluffy and crispy and not stale, and it tastes good, not great. so as a fast food restaurant, this is a very good one, but I don’t think they think it’s fast food. Because after upgrading my fries and adding an iced tea, the total price I paid for this very small portion of food was $32. so if they’re not fast food, they’re competing with Irish pubs, and that might put the price more in the same range. But now that’s where the portion of food comes in, because at some Irish pubs, they give you like two or three full fish not just too little fish sticks. So, yes, you were paying an up charge for less food, and while the food is not terrible, I would still say it’s probably kind of a tourist trap. I don’t know what do you think? i’ll probably get my fish and chips at an Irish pub next time.

After being identified, the black woman doubles down saying “If you take too long with my bill when it's time to leave the restaurant, I'm leaving your place of business. Call me broke all you want.
