How on earth did the organisers allow that to go ahead!!

I I lifeguarded that beach for 2 yrs ...that swim should not have gone ahead there. We need to really respect the area in question and always expect the unexpected. Loads of unanswered questions. 'Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h'anam dílis'

That's surfing conditions, not sea swimming conditions!!

Look at those waves. What a disgrace that this went ahead.

Shouldn't that have been cancelled or postponed due to poor weather?

Looks more like a scene from Saving private Ryan than a 'sporting' competition. This should not have gone ahead. RIP to both men and condolences to their families.

That's not a good look...questions need to be asked.

Having done water safety at many triathlons and surf life saving events, that looks like a shit show with one outcome, unfortunately. What was the contingency plan, and what was the trigger for its use? We have called off swims and changed events for lesser conditions. RIP.

It's disgraceful the Ironman competition hasn't been cancelled out of respect for the victims & their families. Even more shocking it took place so soon after Storm Betty.

They cancelled the swim at Waterville Hardman in July. It wasn't NEARLY this bad. Race organisers have a lot to answer to. (I've done 17 tris, so know the dangers)
