Iran Reveals HOW It Captured U.S. Underwater Drone Iranian state media released new footage showing the REMUS 600, which it says was HUNTED and captured intact in the Persian Gulf. The U.S. drone follows pre-programmed underwater routes before returning to a designated recovery point. Iran now potentially has its mission routes, sonar data, search algorithms and navigation settings, offering a window into U.S. operations beneath the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran seized a US Navy underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz. The Dive-LD is a 5.8-metre AUV that the US was using to detect mines in the strait. Tehran will likely try to reverse engineer it and share the technology with China and Russia.

Iran may study the technology of a captured US underwater drone Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had captured a US Dive-LD underwater drone near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. The system was developed by California-based Anduril. Military analyst Kevin Rowlands said the capture could be both a propaganda victory for Iran and an opportunity to study US technology. Of particular interest would be the propulsion system, communications and navigation systems, and the drone’s controls. The Pentagon said the drone had malfunctioned and was an older version that contained no classified systems or data. Rowlands also believes that the most sensitive technologies may have been protected against capture and exploitation.
