It’s supposed to win time and put Iran in a weaker position. During the hot war Iran kept the Strait of Hormuz closed, most countries understood and accepted it. Now it’s open, and if the US starts dragging the talks out, Iran can’t just close it again. This will probably be NOT accepted as before by countries like China and others. So the trick was successful and that weakened Irans hand. So, IMO the 46% on the closed deal predicted by Polymarket is way too high. The neocons and Israel are preparing to restart the war… and that means no deal.

And here he does a deal that gives Iran tens of billions of dollars to open a strait that wasn't closed before he launched the war. Expressly permits them to design a scheme going forward to charge fees for ships going through that strait, which was never a thing before this war. That promises $300 billion in investment in Iran to reconstruct it. And that doesn't actually get anything solid on the nuclear file.

A complete ceasefire in Lebanon and Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon (among various other things) were part of the MoU between Iran and America. Until these conditions are met, the Strait will remain closed. All vessels are ordered, for their own safety, to not approach the Strait of Hormuz. Any vessel that defies this order will be targeted.
