Demonstrations in Iran spread to fresh cities in Iran, including the holy city of Qom, a core stronghold of Shi’a clerics and the Islamic Republic, where protesters chanted pro-monarchy slogans despite heavy security. Protest slogans have moved well beyond economic grievances, openly targeting clerical rule and the Supreme Leader, with growing calls for regime change and a return to the Pahlavi era. This is the first time in the past five decades that pro-monarchy slogans have come to dominate the chants.
