Debris from one of the projectiles confirms use of a 122mm Grad rocket, manufactured in 2023. (pic) - Grad rockets are widely used by Iraqi PMF factions, PKK-linked Kurdish groups, and Iranian-backed militias. - Range suggests the launch site was within ~20–40 km of Kirkuk. No group has claimed responsibility yet.

The trigger was a US air strike against the PMF’s operational headquarters in Anbar province this morning, in which Saad al-Baiji, the PMF’s operational commander in Anbar, was killed along with 14 of his men. In total, there were 30 dead and wounded. The attack took place during a security meeting attended by high-ranking commanders.
