Fight me on what we're calling real.

Okay, what's your definition?

@ServiceJackal Someone who uses hardware and software in real time? And not some bozo using their spotify playlist over their splash page and calling it their "pre-record." We fr rn???

@ServiceJackal Bro what is your deal?? Lmao

@ServiceJackal As a fellow californian, one must presume we have at least several screws loose. Of the most insane are those who think playing a spotify playlist is actually DJing. Straight to the wards with them!

@ServiceJackal I haven't really seen that too much myself.

Like HIV at a con- it's everywhere. Ya just gotta pull your pants down and it'll come your way. On a serious note-- I've seen it first hand in every other club I DJ'd for. One time I saw a bozo literally DRAG a miss monique set into their page mid-stream, hide it, and proceed to pretend he's DJing the entire thing in VRC.

@ServiceJackal I have yet to see any of this type of shenanigans. But I guess it really depends on what clubs you frequent.

People in VR: Oh that’s cool what events do you do IRL? People IRL for some reason: You aren’t of the same caliber Literally every Club/Gig/Event DJ I have EVER spoken to IRL: You can DJ in VR? That is the coolest thing I’ve ever heard.

ACTUALLY THOUGH

I feel a lot of this also has to deal with the stigma that is placed on the VRChat community by the fandom. The amount of times I have had people treat me negatively for the sole reason that I play VRChat and that was partially my gateway into the fandom.

The real difference is who ai generated there music

Physical hardware, competent library, legit decktime, I feel like that’s 95% of the hobby. Although getting the chance to mix on some CDJ’s or such is definitely intimidating from the DDJSS at home ✨

@XenoLePink Djing while half your view is obscured by a heavy piece of plastic headset…somehow less real 😭

I am a DJ- and I will say with absolute passion. /FUCK/ the people who enter the lineup claiming to be a DJ only to pedal a shitty spotify playlist, a "pre-record" which is literally a playlist with their name stuck onto a shitty splash page, or both. It takes slots away from people who put the time, effort, and money into getting our shit right and giving it to people who make zero effort but still get to go up on stage because they are popular / know people who are. So, I say again. FUCK fake DJs.

Real AF!

rel

Pedaling links and playlists is not DJing. Period. This is.

I think it's less asking about 'real' DJs and more people trying to ask "do they have regular paid bookings, releases or credits, and demonstrated experience performing in physical venues. It's not an unfair question to ask, there's a lot of DJs out there, but not all of them have an established professional track record. If it's free, most people will not care, you have a ton of runway, once money is exchanged, people start to get picky, they have higher expectations and want more familiar names.
