Even something as simple as releasing local government funds and allowing the councils to use them judiciously for grassroots development can become a defining legacy. Governors have come and gone. On our way to Samburu County, we stopped at Tangulbei, Baringo County. We were reminded that what we are doing with the #UkatibaCaravan is different as many politicians do not go to Tangulbei nor listen to the grievances of the people. We heard of long-standing neglect, a strong sense of marginalisation, especially amongst the pastoralist community and lack of inclusion of their youth and community in regional & national development. This is what propels me each day, to drive through rough terrain- not helicopters- to listen to our people.
