Sugar/carb addiction is 100% true, maybe addiction is a taboo word for some but so be it. Quitting grains and eating meat only certainly helps healing it (I did).

100%, and it is legal and force-fed by government and doctors alike... madness. Sugar and gluten are HIGHLY addictive and are in almost all processed foods. and these foods are omni-present.. you can not hide.

Addiction is absolutely real. I’ve suffered from it. I do much better cutting out carbs and sugar. Especially sugar. I think sugar is the meth of the food chain. After I’ve been off of it for a couple weeks, I don’t even think of it anymore.

Food addiction” is a straightforward term. Are we not supposed to be “addicted” to food? Perhaps what we consider as food today isn’t truly food. What’s more crucial is the macronutrient ratio, as well as obtaining sufficient micronutrients. Besides, energy…

If sugar, refined carbs, and UPFs are food, then food addiction is 100% real.

I don't know if it's so much "food addiction" as "sugar/carb" addiction. At least for me, once I started passing on those so-called "foods," I found it extremely easy to limit my intake, fast if you will & feel fine. Some people are impressed with my "willpower!"😆

Yes. Well….. sugar / carb addiction anyway. Been fighting it for 3 years now with great success but it always seems to manage to stick a foot in the door. Will continue to fight though and win!

addiction isn't what is illegal or not. It is what people use to replace their emotional deficiencies at a rate that is damaging to their own lives, and others around them.

100% a junkie. Other diets or WOE never eliminated my cravings like carnivore has, I used to crush boxes of cookies, half a cheesecake, whatever it was, daily. Every day without fail for 8 years (quit drinking). I'm on week 9 of ZERO carbs or sugar, just meat, no cravings!!

A common misconception is that it's the substance/action itself (alcohol/gambling) but it's your overall brain makeup. Not everyone who drinks alcohol becomes addicted. You can become addicted to anything tho b/c it's what happens to your brain when you engage in the addiction.

Hi Shawn, thanks for this response. In my life I have known many people who were addicted to things like crack, heroin, meth, fentanyl, etc. These people got to the point where they couldn't even function and lost their jobs, their houses, their transportation, their families, their children, etc - and some of them died of overdoses, got infected with HIV or got killed because they got themselves into very dangerous situations due to their drug addiction. I have NEVER known someone who over-consumes sugary foods to have these issues as a result. I don't think "Food Addiction" as it's talked about in these circles is anything like actual chemical drug addiction. I am saying this from personal experience in knowing both hardcore drug addicts and people who were morbidly obese from over-consuming junk food. HOWEVER, it is *something* as we do see way too many people who have made sugary, zero-nutrition, treats into their daily meals. Perhaps it should be studied more but from where I sit there is a BIG difference both in the nature of the habits and the issues that manifest as a result. As I said in my original post, instead of "food addiction" it is more along the lines of "food abuse" - IE: turning treats (made of mostly salt, sugar and fat) into meals and over-consuming calories. Personally, I am about 90% carnivore and think you are doing a great job in getting people to take responsibility for their eating habits and their health. I have always told people about you and about the carnivore diet and have even got a few people to at least start eating more meat on a regular basis. 🤘💪🥩🍖🥓

20,000 sugar detox’s, 1,000s of one on one client’s and as past Chairman of the Board of the Food Addiction Institute I can attest that Food Addiction is real. It’s a bit of a misnomer though. When it goes in the DSM it will likely be call Ultra Processed Food Use Disorder.

Would the person who said that people don’t commit crimes so it’s not addiction, tell us what their opinion of people taking time away from work sick due to metabolic illnesses whilst still getting paid by their employer is? Seems like theft due to self inflicted injury to me..

Not convinced that everyone is addicted. I was, judging by the withdrawals when I cut sugar from the diet, cold turkey style. Not sure it’s as bad as some more understood addictions though, as I can now take it in small amounts occasionally, but don’t like sweet as much anymore.

🍭, 🥖 , 🍷 cause a release of dopamine in the brain and the segregation of this substance is what leads to lack of control and addiction to the product that contains it. There is no difference between carbohydrates and heroin or synthetic drugs, the consequences are the same.

fat is more important than protein for appetite control. there i said it. you cannot get enough of both of them if you crowd them out by too many carbs.

When I did my study abroad in Australia one of the saddest stories to me was the railroad workers trading candy for sex with the indigenous women as rails expanded across the country in the colonial period. People have and I’m sure still do prostitute themselves for sugar.

Absolutely, good breakdown of what addiction can look like. Many view it only through the lens of illegal drugs, but there are healthy addictions as well! It's also one of those things you may not recognize until you get rid of it.
