I think if you're wealthy and have access to an excellent private school that it's a good alternative. I had a large family and commuting to and paying for a private school was not possible, and so homeschooling until college was our best answer. I'm glad it was our choice.

The current model of education is unsustainable. Surging per student expenditures, maintenance and operations of school properties is onerous on citizens. Surely we can figure out a system that does a better job educating and doesn’t burden taxpayers with out of control spending. And don’t get me started on the indoctrination that goes on.

Homeschooling is a solution to the major problem, but the bad thing is like you say they need to be out and socializing and learning how to interact with other people. Learn how to deal with bullying, etc..
