Indians eat atleast 500gm of cooked white rice a day It goes up to 1000gm some occassions Aldo most people eat meat only on Sundays Technically they are non vegetarians but meat consumption is extremely low No wonder we have 101 million people suffering with diabetes

You are spot on @SBakerMD Indian diet is not a plant based diet but a grain based diet. The amount of white rice & refined wheat consumed is unimaginable. We mix a carb curry like potato into rice along with carb rich lentils. Cooked in seed oils. Unfortunately most are unfit

I heard that diabetes is widespread amongst Indians and they’re not even considered obese! Maybe they’re plant-based diet haves something to do with it in my opinion

There are so many other things that are wrong, like eating more often, ultra processed food, lack of protein, high stress lifestyle, sound pollution, air pollution and all of these chip away at lifespan

Most of the things stated are obvious and correct. Even on vegetarian diet though, it is not hard to get to 100-150gms a day but most ppl lack basic understanding of nutrition. It is also expensive to get protein in that range whether on veg or non veg diet in India.

It's rare that I see a middle aged Indian women in America in good shape. That's putting it nicely. (And yes you could say the same about any woman in America, really.) They're usually vegetarian, do a lot of walking, rarely lift weights.

History teaches us something here also. Halalisation and the banning of animal slaughter by non-Muslims since the 13th century has had a major impact. We used to hunt and rear our own animals for food.

Yes, it's a metabolic disaster - It also comes with a false sense of moral superiority for being a vegetarian

I went to a seminar on India's vegetarian health by the lead author of the India Migration Study. When they move to the city from rural areas they start eating processed crap and less whole plants. its as simple as that. rural health problems are due to poverty
