Is it quicker to drive or cycle in a city?

I wouldn't say it was necessarily about the journey time alone. My trip from home across Bristol to work is same whether by car or bike. But going by bike is relaxing, invigorating, full of fresh air, surrounded by green trees & on balance, a nicer experience, even in the rain!

I'm assuming you did it this week? Which is half term for a lot of people, so traffic is quicker... My own commute door to door is 30 mins by bike, 75 by car. As you say, far more reliable journey times by bike.

This was last Thursday, but it wasn't bad traffic day, traffic was alright. If I repeated this on a heavy traffic day, I reckon cars could be 15-20 mins later even over 2 miles.

London Cycling to work every morning. 10 miles - 45 mins Bus - up to 2hrs, usual 1h 30 mins - £3.50 per day. Train - 1hr door to door - £10 per day. I only started cycling in January, well i had an electric bike for the month of December, but sold it to upgrade to a road bike.

2: London lady said it took her 30 mins to drive 1/2 a mile to get to the gym... where she presumably rode a bike that didn't go anywhere for 20 mins!! Jogging or a brisk walk would have been a great warm up/wind down... and pick up some some milk (etc) on the way home!

Two funny congestion tales I remember. 1: Main 2-lane road into Manchester was reduced to one lane for road repairs. Guy complained it took him 40 mins to drive 2 miles to work. He could have cycled there in about 15 mins! 1/2

Were those cars going to the exact same destination? 🤡👍🏻

I drove to work in Trafford. It was 7 miles and took just over an hour. I did think I could have run that from my house and it would have been shorter distance (missing the manc way)

Keep behaving the way you do walking will be your only option.

Why is everyone in such a rush? I’ll get there when I get there.
