In one of my first design classes in art school, our assignment was to create a collage from found images. I was still living at home and I decided to do a collage just using three colors. Red, Black and white. So I searched the house for any images I could find using those colors. I used playing cards, black and white photos and just random text. During class I had to present my work and have it critiqued. The feedback was very positive but the class began to discuss the hidden meaning in the collage and how brilliant it was to tell a story about religion, gambling and sin, since I had images of crosses, an Ace of Hearts, a red poker chip, and religious text. The class pressed me on why I wanted to tell this particular story. I was asked if my parents were religious and if I was rebelling. I said, “Honestly, I just looked for images around the house that were red and black.” This did not go over well because they thought I was being flippant. True story. Designers look to create powerful images. Powerful images can help sell shoes. The shoes in this add look great. They did a great job. If you see racism in this add, you are probably a racist yourself.

I've seen multiple posts saying their marketing guy was African American, it shouldn't make a difference, but if people are gonna lose their shit, then it does. I guess we'll need the man's voting records next. I'd like to ask the offended, try not to look that much into it. Isn't it exhausting to think people are out to get you all the time?
