Is speaking in tongues for today? | Dennis Gorcea

“I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. In the Law it is written: “With other tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers. So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?” 1 Corinthians 14:18-23

Wholeheartedly, I think “speaking in tongues” is the polygot thing, not the white people “catching the spirit” babbling

First off, the tongues of the New Testament were actual discernable languages that they could preach in, even though having never learned that language. They were not speaking gibberish, like you see in charismatic circles.

There is speaking in tongues and then there is praying in the Spirit. Two distinctly separate things

Speaking in tongues always means speaking a foreign language in scripture. Globalization of the gospel, Modern education, translation software has made the gift of tongues less necessary. Gibberish talk is just Haitian Voodoo popularized among Christians by William Seymour.

Amen

Demons speak in tongues

Tongues is speaking so people many hear in their own tongue, this is very misunderstood

Speaking in tongues is not what most people think it is. It’s not just babbling non sense, It was first encountered when those of a foreign language prayed through the Holy Spirit. Others saw this as something they should do and mimicked it… Just pray and talk to Jesus…

Amen
