Why Did Washington Lift Ethiopia’s Arms Embargo Now? Why is Washington opening the door for arms access to Ethiopia at this moment? The answer is simple. With the UAE already accused of backing the RSF, and Ethiopia now emerging as a possible route in the Sudan war, this decision could create another corridor for weapons to flow into an already devastating conflict and true to its predatory nature, the US empire has primed itself to exploit that opening. Sudan’s war is not a local power struggle. It is about foreign interests, mineral wealth, regional control, and the continued weakening of African states for outside benefit.

India is facing a youth unemployment crisis. According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey 2025, 40.1% of tertiary-educated youth are neither employed nor in education or training programmes. Looking at the issue through the education lens only addresses part of the problem. India’s economic woes are far deeper, and the continued decline in corporate private investment is a key reason for reduced job availability. In this episode, Sonikka Loganathan speaks to C. P. Chandrasekhar, former professor at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning at Jawaharlal Nehru University, about what declining corporate investment has to do with India’s unemployment crisis, and why economic growth has not translated into enough jobs.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian journalist and human rights defender Maksym Butkevych has been awarded the 2025 Václav Havel Human Rights Prize by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. This award honours outstanding civil society action in defence of human rights across Europe and beyond. Butkevych is a co-founder of the Human Rights Centre Zmina and Hromadske Radio, and for many years has stood at the forefront of defending freedom of expression and dignity. After the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, he volunteered to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces, serving as a platoon commander. In June 2022, he was captured by Russian forces and sentenced to 13 years in prison in a sham trial. For more than two years, he endured harsh imprisonment before finally being released in a prisoner exchange in October 2024. Accepting the award, Butkevych dedicated it to Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians illegally detained by Russia, as well as all fellow journalists deprived of their liberty in authoritarian regimes.
