Thats not how we do that in Europe, you don’t pull cables diagonally, cables always go straight up/down left/right from switches and outlets so there is no guessing when drilling a hole. Btw we can drill everywhere because we have real walls

None of it is good. Wires should go only horizontally or vertically, not diagonally through the wall. Otherwise, you never know where you can drill a hole into the wall if needed.

The only thing that's better in Europe regarding electrical, is that outlets are all 220. 110 is garbage and makes zero sense since we have 220 coming into the house anyways.

No wonder yall have such a hard time finding wires behind the drywall later. Here electricians usually follow the path shown by the blueprints, so when there is a need find split from anywhere, you can just look at the blueprints and make your hole.

That kind of clusterfuck is not allowed in the EU.

Why would run a bunch of unnecessary conduit for wires no one is ever going to see?

yes it is incredible to se how the US do it. it wont pass code for 2 seconds here. everything is in conduit's. in the old day it was steel tubing. now plastic. and it is all using boxes on the wall

REAL Americans do it right; illegals do it wrong because they have no idea what they are supposed to do

It's fake, the standards in US are insane. Literally drowning in union labor debt because of the "Standards" set by lobbying/buying politicians to pass laws in the name of "safety" which in reality is unions vying for job security in exchange for the oppression of people

It depends on where you live in the U.S. Building codes are by county. There are some counties with no codes (not that common) so you can build whatever you want, however you want, on your own property. I guarantee you some crazy stuff can be built that way. No training required. However, some counties have very strict building codes. Some of them likely have higher requirements than Europe. Forced compliance can feel safe, freedom is risky. I'll accept the risk. I'll do what I can to do safe things on my property but I will not endorse giving up my freedoms so I can insure others are forced to comply.

@CyberGurl10 Yes, but it’s also one of the reasons why it takes three generations to pay for a house.

I'm an Electronic Engineer and very acquinted with the IET Wiring Regulations. I was shocked at seeing the state of the wiring in my Belle-Mare's house in France, and got one real electric shock from it! They said 'it was installed by a proper French Electrician. 1/2

Is this 220volt wiring? If so we do the same in the U.S. Our household voltage is 110.

The houses and appartements in the Netherlands all have solid reinforced concrete walls and ceilings (with brick facings) the electrical tubing is placed before the pour. Wood is a fire and structural hazard and does not last more then 100 years.

Both are bull shit. Everyone knows electricians leave massive messes over the entire job site and leave it for everyone else to clean up no matter where they are on the planet.

It’s not “lazy,” it’s just a different standard. Romex + plastic boxes are code-compliant in the U.S., fast to install, and safe when done properly. Other countries use conduit and masonry because their building systems are different. Different materials. Different regulations. Same goal: don’t get electrocuted. 😅
