Yes, I remember when I was about 5 or 6 I thought I had created the coolest thing by gluing magnets alternating the poles to my mom's old spools of thread, put a nail through the center of the spool then had magnets with opposing poles on the outside and made it spin. My dad burst my bubble when he told me that's how electric motors work.

It’s the motor and magnets legit? Yes. Scalable? Usable in a mass, industrial scale? No. The plugging into the powerstrip and charging the phone is a trick and not legit.
