This isn’t accurate. The 87% figure does NOT mean H-1B applications collapsed 87%. The $100K policy targeted certain new H-1B cases involving workers outside the United States. It generally didn’t apply to people already here, including many F-1/OPT workers changing status to H-1B. And there’s another important detail: The $100K policy was struck down in federal court. Trump also isn’t “doubling it to $200K.” DHS has proposed a new $103,265 fee for cap-subject H-1B petitions. There are plenty of legitimate arguments to have about H-1B. We don’t need to exaggerate the numbers to have them.

The H-1B program is not for rare talent. Rare talent falls under the O/P visa categories. H-1B eligibility does not require extraordinary skills. That's why it has been abused and needs serious reform. The 87% decrease does not account for petitioners already in the U.S.

Unless Congress puts this into law, the next administration will reverse it. I have no confidence that Congress will end H1B because too many members get campaign donations from the beneficiaries of cheap labor. What @POTUS should do is eliminate all visa programs that were created via EO like OPT and EAD.

H1-Bs are only part of the problem. Organizations like Accenture are based in other countries and then offer professional services to American companies (ex. IT jobs) and they utilize workers from India. So, they are not trying to becom citizens but still replacing US workers.

As a strong conservative I do not agree. USA should try to retain or obtain top technical talent. We should not favor large companies with over 100k fee. We should support engineers whether recent grads or young talent like Elon to stay and build our next generation of new businesses in USA.

H1B visa has not reduced, we exhausted the 85,000 h1b limit in 2026. The applications are down because now OPTs are taking h1B visa and not a worker outside the U.S.
