According to i24NEWS, criticism within Israel’s security services concerns both Netanyahu’s public acknowledgment of the operation and recent statements by Defense Minister Israel Katz. Security officials reportedly preferred to avoid extensively publicizing the strike as tensions with Turkey rise. The concern is hardly theoretical: U.S. envoy Tom Barrack said the incident brought Israel and Turkey “a step away” from direct military confrontation, warning that inadequate coordination could have produced an unintended escalation. The political dimension is also increasingly difficult to ignore. Axios reports that some senior U.S. officials believe the timing of the strike may have been influenced partly by Israel’s October elections, while Washington is already frustrated that the operation complicated its attempts to de-escalate tensions between Israel, Syria and Turkey. For Netanyahu, a limited confrontation in Syria may project decisiveness after prolonged conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran, but turning tactical military action into domestic political messaging carries a serious risk when the other major player involved is Turkey.
