We must let the light each of us carry - men and women, young and old- shine bright and brighter to illuminate our path to a glorious dawn. I wish all of us a happy and prosperous year 2024. As we remember Bucha, we ask: what will war and threats look like tomorrow – for Europe, for all of us? We must not let Europe’s enemies answer this question for us, or before us. This is very serious. If we have programs like SAFE, we must make them truly modern and effective. Europe should produce not just what it knows, but what really works in today’s war and what is proven by today’s war. And countries already working with us on joint production understand this. Ukraine has this experience. Now, as our expert teams work in the Middle East and the Gulf, we see that our experience in protecting lives and critical infrastructure is, in many ways, unique. I say this not just out of pride. This is about security. Ukraine’s experience in defense is a real security guarantee for Europe. So I propose that we work together to modernize our defense. 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz is a long stretch of time. A lot has changed. But what won’t change is our memory – how that war started, who was guilty, and who did the killing. And we will never forgive. We also remember that thanks to unity and determination, life won in the end. This is how it should always be. Thank you to everyone who keeps and shares the truth about that horrific time. Eternal memory to all the victims of the Holocaust! And thank you everyone who defends life today. It’s time for Europe to become a place without war. We dream about it. And we’re working for it.

For over three years now, almost throughout this entire war, our Coordination Headquarters has been working—all the services that bring prisoners home. We have already successfully brought back more than four thousand people—4306. And we will bring them all back. Now, when discussing ways to end the war with the American side and our other partners, we speak about the release of prisoners as one of the first steps. We believe that this absolutely must happen. We will do everything to further intensify diplomacy. We will do everything to make diplomacy effective. But every day now is about defending our independence, our state, and our people. We must remember – it is the support of our army, all our defense and security forces, and our state that determines everything. Last night, a father and his young son, just four years old, were tragically killed in the Kyiv region by a Russian strike. My deepest condolences to their family and loved ones. Three other people were injured, including a 12-year-old boy. According to preliminary information, the Russians used a North Korean missile in this attack—yet another deliberate terrorist strike against Ukraine. Pyrotechnic experts are still working to determine the exact data regarding this missile. This week alone, the Russian army has launched more than 30 missiles and over 800 guided aerial bombs. We in Ukraine have responded positively to all proposals from the U.S. and President Trump to end all these attacks and killings. Ukraine has also proactively put forward various formats to bring the war to an end. It is Putin alone who is interested in these killings. Every day, this war remains solely his war – the war of Russia alone. And we expect the world to draw conclusions from this.
