It doesn’t sound like David Fincher’s Cliff Booth sequel is going to get a full theatrical release. I’m not going to mince words: this sucks. I loved Fincher’s 2023 film The Killer & I truly believe The Killer suffered from not getting a full theatrical release. Disappointing.

David Fincher’s next film is just a few months away but I still don’t feel like I know much about The Adventures of Cliff Booth. What I do know is the film isn’t receiving a full theatrical release and that breaks my heart. I am a David Fincher stan through and through, I guess.

The Killer climbs up my David Fincher rankings with every rewatch. My only real issue with this film is that I never had the opportunity to see this in theaters. The lack of theatrical release here really hurt this film’s public reception. But this is still vintage David Fincher.

David Fincher made news this week because his next release- the Cliff Booth sequel he’s been working on with Brad Pitt- is getting an IMAX release before releasing straight to Netflix. It’s a small victory because the release is only a few weeks- but I’ll take any win I can get.

Glen Powell & Adria Arjona were so damn good in Hit Man. We all moved on from this film way, way too quickly. I think it’s a product of the fact this movie didn’t receive a full theatrical release & was relegated to a direct-to-Netflix release. But these two had real chemistry.

Panic Room is 24 years old today. It’s a technical marvel, but I find this Jodie Foster thriller to be David Fincher’s least interesting film. It feels like he challenged himself to make the most gripping movie possible without leaving the house. Solid... just not Fincher-great.

The public messaging from the Abigail Spanberger campaign and the Democrats in Virginia is “we’re winning! We’re up so much! She’s going to be the next governor!” But you tell me, does this sound like a confident campaign? Directly from a Spanberber campaign staffer: “I’m not optimistic… I have to believe she’s going to win. They pay me a lot of money.. I don’t feel cohesive, I feel like a sales representative.” That doesn’t sound like confidence to me. The campaign doesn’t even believe in their own candidate. The Democrats are about to lose, and they know it. 🇺🇸

Mank is one of David Fincher’s lowest rated films on Letterboxd with only a 3.3 rating, something I don’t agree with. I get that Mank released during the thick of the pandemic & it’s not necessarily the film most wanted from Fincher. But it’s a beautiful movie on so many levels.

Judas and the Black Messiah is a film we all collectively moved on from too quickly. I blame COVID. Had this film dropped during normal times with a standard theatrical release, I think we’d discuss this more. I’m at least happy this movie received some Oscar love. Great film.
