It is beyond time to have a sensible, structured national conversation about migration - a 12 month programme. I’m so bored with endless superficial soundbites & dishonesty from politicians. But who has built structures to adequately empower quality conversation? It’s time.

I thought Germany had actually started having local community conversations around local resources and influx of immigrants/people to those communities. At least, that’s what I read somewhere!

I agree, but it can't just be limited to the intellectuals. Working class people need to be included in this, too. everyone, every community must have a voice, or the debate is a failure.

@jom7843 Hence why I said it needs to be led by questions from the citizenry - and primarily answered by community/ local democratic leaders rather than politicians & think tanks.

Fair point Mike, and important to involve everyone. The fact that Farage pulls in 14% of the popular vote can’t and should not simply be ignored or waved away with sound bites. Sure, some many bigots will have voted Reform. But we should all be mature enough to not simply discount any Reform voter as a bigoted racist. There are genuine concerns amongst the populace that need addressing. Including all the nuance you mention, staffing of our NHS and so on and so forth.

We're not allowed to talk about migration. It's racist apparently. That's why we are where we are.

Let's have a referendum on immigration, oh wait we've tried that before on a different subject & that didn't go well for you did it? Immigration is easily explained, the vast majority of the British people never nor still do want it but a dozen woke bellends somewhere in SW1 did
