Of course, if NYC managed their resources better, perhaps there wouldn’t be a need for these FDNY units!

A major operational challenge for the FDNY during cold weather is frozen hydrants caused by freezing temperatures. To prevent water from freezing in these hydrants across the city, the FDNY has specialized thawing apparatus trucks in each of the five boroughs.

Two vehicles were parked on fire hydrants when FDNY units responded to a 4-alarm fire Thursday in the Bronx. Parking on fire hydrants is ILLEGAL in New York City, and it can delay first responders when seconds matter most. Keep hydrants clear so our members can quickly get water on a fire and save lives. 🚫 DON'T park on fire hydrants.

The ice is melting. Stay off of it. Over the last few days, the FDNY has responded to multiple water rescues. We remind New Yorkers to please, stay off the ice. It’s a danger to you and our members.

Parking on fire hydrants is dangerous and illegal! 🚫 The FDNY responded to a 5-alarm fire in the Bronx early Monday morning. Multiple vehicles were blocking fire hydrants. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. But this selfish act could mean the difference between life and death. Don't do it. And if you choose to block a hydrant, prepare to pay big 💰 Parking on fire hydrants is punishable by up to $5,000 in fines. Don’t park on hydrants.

On Friday, I visited the civilian and uniformed members in our Fleet Services and Medical Supply Unit. As a major snowstorm approaches, they work nonstop to keep emergency vehicles on the road and medical supplies flowing to keep New Yorkers safe.
