It is ironic that even while I am speaking about how the Government is preparing itself to face unexpected events, including supply chain disruptions and issues related to LPG, the Opposition is not willing to listen to the reply. Instead, they prefer to pursue their own agenda. I would... like to make it clear that because of developments taking place abroad, several challenges are emerging for our country. The question before us is how we should face these challenges, how we should arrange the necessary funds to deal with them, and how we should remain prepared. When the Government is taking many such steps to ensure preparedness, it is unfortunate that the Opposition, instead of standing together in the interest of the nation and giving confidence to the people, is taking irresponsible positions. Short duration discussion, long duration discussion, in the Business Advisory Committee, you decide how much time you want to take. You can take 12 hours, you can take 18 hours. In the Rajya Sabha, as the leader of the house, I have always believed that we are ready for discussion for whatever number of hours the opposition decides. And the abundance ethos harkens back to the old ideas that existed from the turn of the twentieth century through the 1960s — that we should be building up government power so that government is capable of taking on these corporations. That we have people in government who can make discretionary decisions about where we're going to build transmission lines, how we're going to improve transit, where we're going to build housing, how we're going to regulate this and that. We want bureaucracies to be able to move speedily and make decisions in the public interest. It's the reforms we've seen since the 60s and 70s that have slowed government down so they cannot be responsive to the corporate challenge. The idea that we should abandon abundance in the name of attacking corporations misses the point that government should be a competent institution that can accurately — and thoroughly — review and challenge corporations when they're doing wrong.

What the Leader of the Opposition is trying to suggest here is that, in his own judgment, he has done nothing undignified. Whereas you have taken a call as the Chairman, and to re-question that and suggest that it is to protect the Hon’ble Prime Minister is, I think, not appropriate for the Leader of the Opposition. Most of our major cities are living under a blanket of poisonous air. Millions of children are getting lung diseases, their future is being destroyed, and people are getting cancer. Older people are struggling to breathe. This is an interesting issue because I am certain that there would be full agreement between the government and us on this. This is not an ideological issue; everybody in the House agrees that air pollution—and the damage it is doing to our people—is something we should co-operate on. Listen to this segment of the New Statesman Podcast (Sep 26, 2025). While attempting to couch their language in such a way as to imply the right is wrong about everything, they fully admit that Liz Truss was completely snaked by the Bank of England and this raises a constitutional crisis in our country: Should it be the elected government who dictates economic policy or should it be the unelected Bank of England? This is a serious and weighty question to which there is actually an obvious answer, and they admit that the cruelty by which Truss was dealt with by the left was wholly inappropriate because Starmer's government is facing the exact same problem. It's quite a shocking listen because it reveals the sheer partisanship of the them-vs-us attitude of the liberal elites and their worship of the system as opposed to any normal Brit who actually thinks the country ought to work for the people first. If the system is not serving us then the system must change, but instead they admit the system decided it would take action against the government instead to protect itself. This is completely unacceptable, and they admit it.

It would be logical to have a discussion on them. Parliament is supposed to be the place where we can ventilate the voice of the people, the concerns of the people. Once we do that, we all know the government has a majority. As the old saying goes, the Opposition must have its say because the government will have its way. They have the majority. But at least let parliament be a forum where these concerns can be heard, can be truly ventilated and voiced, where various people can represent the views of their constituents. Then the government can disagree. But right now, just refusing a discussion is what has led to today's disruption because the opposition wanted these issues up there, wanted an opportunity to talk about them on the floor of the house. If Parliament is not for raising these issues, then honestly, what is it for? I mean, it can't just be a sort of notice board for the government to announce its bills and get them passed with a rubber stamp. That's not what Parliament is all about. It should be a forum where all these views can be heard, discussed, debated as necessary and then passed. The Prime Minister has sought cooperation from the opposition. We support the Women's Reservation Bill, but the way this government has brought it is politically motivated. We have consistently supported women's reservation - in 2010 and again in 2023, when the Constitutional amendment was passed unanimously. Our demand is simple: implement the amendment instead of using it as a political tool. Secondly, the government is playing tricks on delimitation. All of us in the Opposition are united in this, and unitedly we have decided that we will oppose this bill. Let me make it clear, we are not against Women's Reservation. We are against the government's attempt to link it to an unclear census and a future delimitation process. The executive is taking powers that should remain with institutions and Parliament, creating scope to alter delimitation whenever it suits them politically. We have already seen such manipulation and deception in Assam and Jammu & Kashmir. That is why we will continue to fight unitedly on this issue.

Igbos need to decide on what they want. The pull for Biafra on one hand and Igbo presidency on the other hand is confusing. Igbos should define the direction they are taking and give everything to play for it. If Biafra is what the Igbos want, there is how to press for it without the criminality of terrorism approach IPOB and ESN are driving and if it is the Nigerian presidency that is their choice, they should be smart in building bridges across the nation and not the low of bullying and blackmailing with crass arrogance of throwing abuses at every turn of opposition. Play smart not the arrogance card!
