A student in Zurich sleeps in a camper van outside a hangar every night. Just to have more hours to build a humanoid robot. He’s obsessive. He's not alone. 2,500 students across Europe are getting into robotics right now. And now they united and just launched: ESRA, the European Student Robotics Association. 🇪🇺🦾 They are bringing together highly talented young people, give them space, give them resources and let them build. By now already 13 robotics clubs. 8 countries. 2,500+ students. I visited several of them over the last weeks to get to know them and let them tell their stories. We've also been helping behind the scenes where we can, because this is exactly what Europe needs. Several multiple billion dollar companies will come out of the ESRA network. Right here in Europe. Today is Europe Day. And Ukraine is marking it not formally or through sloganeering, but fully aware that we are already an inseparable part of the European family. We are defending Ukraine, our independence, our future – and in doing so, we in Ukraine are defending our Europe. A Europe of which Ukraine has been and will remain a part. From the first days of the full-scale war until today, Europe has stood with Ukraine. And this is not charity – it is a choice made by Europeans: to stand on the same side as the brave and the strong – the Ukrainians who are fighting today for peace and true protection against tyranny, not only for themselves, but for the entire continent. And we will inevitably defend our state, our people, and our right to freely choose our future – a future in Europe. Glory to Ukraine!

We should not degrade ourselves to secondary roles – not when we have a chance to be a great power together. We should not accept that Europe is just a salad of small and middle powers, seasoned with enemies of Europe. When united we are truly invincible. Europe can and must be a global force. Not one that reacts late, but one that defines the future. That would help everyone – from the Middle East to every other region in the world. That would help Europe itself because the challenges we face now are challenges to the European way of life where people matter, where nations matter. Europe can help build a better world. Europe must build a better world. A world without war. But for that, Europe needs strength. For that, we must act together – and act in time. And most of all – we must have the courage to act.

Europe must stop trying to do everything, everywhere, all at once. There is a clear trinity of top priorities: innovation, productivity and competitiveness. That is where our focus must be. If not, the decarbonisation of Europe will become synonymous with its deindustrialisation, poverty and irrelevance. If we want Europe to matter in the world, our industry must matter first. It is up to us!

What the vice president said last year was very clear: Europe had made a series of internal decisions that were threatening to the alliance and ultimately to itself. Not because we hate Europe or don’t like Europeans, but because what is it that we fight for? What binds us together? Ultimately, it’s that we are heirs to the same civilization, a great civilization. One we should be proud of, one that has contributed enormously to the world, and one upon which America itself is built. And that’s the point. People don’t fight and die for abstract ideas. They fight to defend who they are and what matters to them. Europe still spends lot of time on lengthy processes, decision-making, and debating what is right and which capabilities we should buy in five or ten years. You simply get it done. For me, defending Europe now means including Ukraine in Europe. Europe will not be able to do what needs to be done without Ukraine. In the beginning of the war, we were helping you. Now we depend on each other.

When I was a founder, every VC fund looked identical. Same landing page, same language, zero transparency into how they actually worked or what they actually believed. I couldn't figure out who was aligned with what I was building. So we're doing something about it: we're open-sourcing our investor updates. Same document our LPs get, fully public, nothing redacted. Berlin just hosted the best robotics meetup in Europe. 🦾 We wanted to get 50 friends together. 500 people applied once we put a private page up. The demos were all made in Europe: a fully autonomous electric tractor that lifts 4 tons (Voltrac). A multi-ton autonomous excavator (sensmore). Drones built fully in Europe (HIGHCAT). Anti-drone lasers (Stealth). Strike systems delivered by balloon (Planetfall). A payload that sees landmines through soil (Sapper Intelligence). Multiple robot arms working perfectly in sync (EVASIVE ROBOTICS). Satellite defense lasers (also Stealth). Actual Star Wars stuff. The reason we do this is simple. If these tractors, robots, lasers aren't developed and produced in Europe, they'll be built elsewhere. We need these jobs here. These manufacturing sites here. Berlin just hosted the best robotics meetup in Europe. 🦾 We wanted to get 50 friends together. 500 people applied once we put a private page up. The demos were all made in Europe: a fully autonomous electric tractor that lifts 4 tons (Voltrac). A multi-ton autonomous excavator (sensmore). Drones built fully in Europe (HIGHCAT). Anti-drone lasers (Stealth). Strike systems delivered by balloon (Planetfall). A payload that sees landmines through soil (Sapper Intelligence). Multiple robot arms working perfectly in sync (EVASIVE ROBOTICS). Satellite defense lasers (also Stealth). Actual Star Wars stuff. The reason we do this is simple. If these tractors, robots, lasers aren't developed and produced in Europe, they'll be built elsewhere. We need these jobs here. These manufacturing sites here.
