When there are thousands of qualified people looking for jobs, muizz is so desperate that he stooped so low giving unnecessary jobs to idiots. No child will lose anything by giving pensions to anyone. And no husband and wife must feel the burden to look after their parents when they grow old. Old people has to be given a respect for serving the country when they were young. And there is no harm given them a fund or money till they die.

Adair Turner’s 2002 tome even refers to the state pension as “an entitlement”. The people were actively told that if you built up a NIC record, you will get the appropriate state pension, but the people were not told that changed, because the change was quietly buried over time within acts of parliament and not referred to. Did government not learn from WASPI? At least when women had their state pension age changed, it was widely promulgated. This though, changed because the government wanted you to think that in the future that your state pension would be a privilege, and not an entitlement. Because then of course, the state can tell you that you don’t get one, and it then has a tighter hold over you. The state did not tell you when it slowly started to change it from being a contributory scheme to a non-contributory scheme, because it wanted the best of both worlds. It knew, when it started to change things, but all hell would break loose if people realised the state pension was going to be something to be a carrot and stick, and not an entitlement.

46 million working Americans don’t have a 401k plan, pension plan or other savings plan for their retirement. Tonight, President Donald J. Trump announced that he was going to create a savings plan that will model that of the Thrift Savings Plan for government employees. Let’s call it the Trump Savings Plan. The Trump Savings Plan will allow workers without a savings plan to put aside a portion of their income every year with a Federal match of $1,000 — with the potential for the match to increase with congressional approval — that will be invested in the stock market and will grow tax free until their retirement. We need every working American to own a piece of capitalism so that while they sleep, they can save for their retirement and the next generation. And importantly, the program pays for itself even with a 5% government match, as the participants retire with the resources they need, and are no longer reliant on welfare programs and are not a future burden to the welfare system. I predict that increasing the government match for the Trump Savings Plan will be one of the few bipartisan pieces of legislation approved by Congress next year for how can a member of Congress vote against giving every working American the same savings plan that they have? This conversation has generated a fair bit of conversation so I think it’s worth elaborating on. There is a common misconception that superannuation is decreasing the number of retirees on the pension. As per ASFA figures attached in comments - the median balance for men and women aged 60-64 is $220k and $164k respectively. That is nowhere near enough to get off the full pension which starts to reduce when a home owning single person has assets of $321k. The pension cuts out entirely if a home owning single person has assets of $714k. In other words, well over half of people about to retire have barely half the level of assets needed to get off the full pension. This is worse than when Superannuation began in 1992 when 77% of retirees were receiving a pension. 50% were receiving a full pension and 27% were receiving a part pension. Furthermore as per the ABS figures attached in comments below, 40% of people now retiree with a mortgage up from 10% in 1992. These figures are over five years old so the figure is probably worse. That means that most people have to cash in their super when they retire to pay off their mortgage and then go onto the pension anyway. Then there is the whole return on investment scenario - if house prices are growing the same as or faster than superannuation returns, then yet again it becomes a false economy. In other words Superannuation is not achieving its stated aim. The Productivity Commission estimates the cost of running Superannuation is around 1% of funds under management or $40 billion per year. Australia doesn’t need more financial engineers in this country, we need real engineers building real assets not paper assets. Nor should we be investing superannuation money overseas in foreign infrastructure when our own country desperately needs more infrastructure investment.

I can’t begin to describe how disgraceful this government are when it comes to sneaky tax rises and raiding the pockets of families. Were you aware that your Pension savings, which were previously exempt are now going to be subject to 40% Inheritance tax. So where previously your pension would go tax free to your grieving spouse and family, it’s now gonna fall foul of IHT. Even worse the pension company are allowed to hold on to 50% of the pension for up to 15 months. Inheritance tax is totally immoral anyway but now it will apply to even more people in money they thought was safe.

There will no longer be this trend — ever higher contributions, ever lower benefits. It will be reversed. We do not make politics for one electoral term.
