This afternoon, together with the Hon. Minister of State for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga , I had the pleasure of meeting the outgoing Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Uganda , H.E. Frederieke Quispel, who paid us a farewell courtesy call. Ambassador Quispel will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a true friend of Uganda. Throughout her tenure, she played a vital role in promoting investment opportunities in our country and was a strong champion of Uganda’s agricultural transformation, sustainable development, and the strengthening of Uganda–Netherlands relations. On behalf of the Government of Uganda, I thanked Her Excellency for her dedicated service, unwavering partnership, and valuable contribution to our country’s development. We wish her every success in her future endeavors and look forward to continued cooperation between Uganda and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Ministers of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda (Cabinet Minister) and Hon Kyofatogabye Kabuye (Minister of State), as well as technical officers, today we inspected road construction works in Kampala. I am impressed by the progress of the works on the major roads in the city, and I thank the political leadership of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the technical staff for supervising the construction projects. We also visited Kadiba Stadium and inspected the ongoing works as Uganda prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations next year. I am in Kenya for a two-day working visit together with Hon. Ministers of State, Gen. This evening, I joined staff in Office of the Prime Minister - Uganda for our twice-a-month physical exercise at the Nakasero Primary School playground. This physical exercise programme follows a Cabinet directive requiring Ministries, Departments and Agencies to conduct physical exercise sessions for their staff to combat lifestyle diseases. I commend the staff for embracing this programme and encourage them to continue. Exercise is therapy & only healthy people can do the work effectively. Earlier today, Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth (MP), Speaker Parliament of Uganda, accompanied by H.E. Amb. Paul Amoru, met with the leadership of the Ugandan community in South Africa led by the President of the Confederation of Ugandans in Southern Africa (COUSA). The meeting focused on the welfare, safety and security of Ugandans living in South Africa, particularly in light of the recent attacks targeting foreign nationals and growing concerns within migrant communities. The Speaker reaffirmed the Government of Uganda’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and listened to concerns raised by the leaders regarding the situation on the ground. Discussions also covered the detailed report which the High Commission has sent to Kampala with key recommendations which the Rt. Hon. Speaker pledged to follow and ensure Parliament works closely with the executive through the available government channels to achieve actionable solutions to the situation of affected Ugandans in South Africa. In the wee hours of the morning of 19th Jan 2026 in the chilly weather of Rabat, I kept turning in my bed accepting that; Despite achieving a multitude of historic milestones as the President of FUFA None of them makes me as emotional as realizing my childhood dream. The first AFCON I watched was 1992 and was supporting Senegal 🇸🇳 the hosts because of Jules Bocande (RIP). I then asked why was Uganda not in the competition and everyone laughed at me. I said one day we shall play while hosting that AFCON and the laughter was even louder. Uganda had missed 7 previous editions without any infrastructure to host I watched each yet helplessly Uganda fail to qualify for the next 7 editions (1994-2004). As part of the administration Uganda further painfully missed the next 5 editions (2006-2013) As FUFA President, Uganda missed the 1 edition (2015) and finally cracked the code for 2017. Now Uganda will be at 4 editions in 10 years in 2027 Now taking Uganda 🇺🇬 to AFCON after 40 years of failing is great but bringing AFCON to Uganda is not just historic but realizing a childhood dream by participating not observing Now we must not only qualify but compete at AFCON Thank you Government of Uganda Government of Kenya Tanzania Government Football Kenya Federation TFF TANZANIA FUFA CAF for believing in this project Welcome the World, Welcome Africa to East Africa in general and to our motherland Uganda in particular Karibuni Africa Masharik Pamoja ni uwezo Allah Akbar
