In the 90s, artists had to put in a lot of effort to promote their songs to their audience, which compelled them to think deeply before crafting lyrics. However, this generation benefits from the internet and record labels partnering with streaming companies to push songs into our eyes and ears, making it challenging to appreciate artists solely based on their lyrical content. When comparing Seyi Sodimu and Tems' versions of "Love Me Jeje," which one would you prefer to jam to the most? They said photography wasn’t art. They said cinema wasn’t art. They said video games weren’t art. Now they say AI arts/digital art isn’t art. I’ve spent over a decade with my studio team turning millions of data points into living, breathing artwork experiences ethically — at MoMA, at the Guggenheim, at the Venice Biennale. Not because a machine told me what to create, but because I had a vision that no traditional tool could realize. Denying all AI technologies as an artistic medium doesn’t protect art. It limits it. The artists who embrace new tools don’t replace the old masters — they join them. Art is not defined by the brush. It’s defined by the intention, the emotion, and the courage to see the world differently.

Late last night I found out over 100+ songs from our catalog were used to train AI models. Thanks to The Atlantic, they leaked a database of millions of songs that have been used by the biggest AI music companies like Udio and Suno. To be honest, until the major labels go through their lawsuits, there’s no way for artists or labels to fight back. They literally scraped the best songs from our catalog. I’m sick. If you want to check songs from the database, comment “AI Watchdog”.

This is the video AI Haters tried to cancel, created by Martin Nebelong, who has just given me permission to republish it. He felt compelled to remove it due to the incredible amount of bullying he was receiving. In his words: "The amount of hate, negativity, and fear was staggering, and I didn't want to defend myself against that." Nothing outrages me more me more than the "cancel culture" and the unfair pressures on creators who are simply using AI tools and showing the world how they can learn these new creative processes. His video is amazing. It shows how Generative AI nowadays is much more than "just writing a prompt". And how it will enable artists and designers to experiment in countless new ways. Remember that it's not that artists/designers hate AI! AI Haters are just a small group of people and they don't speak for all artists. In fact, I know many more artists and designers who already use it daily. But they just don't make noise: they focus on learning and creating. Martin, you, and any other creator using AI, has all my support!
