I know people give you shit for doping but I know that your accomplishments still required tremendous sacrifice, training and pain. Haters are gonna hate. You were an inspiration to me during your years in the tour.

Massage, dinner, sleep, blood transfusion, breakfast… Yes, it’s a process.

To all. During Lance’s career, he and practically every cyclist from the early 90s through mid 2k were a part of a system. It’s not like they were all using PEDs just to win but because PEDs were handed to them as a means to help ensure contractual objectives were met. The peloton and all of the support existed as a jail yard mentality. Each new the other was doping, therefore just take PEDs and don’t worry. It was a matter of survival. What was brutal in the end wasn’t the doping … so what? It was the lying, people hurt, relationships destroyed and the demonization of those who were pressured into taking PEDs or else. Pantani killed himself over the shame he never chose. The doped Pantani is still a champion. He simply did what he was told. Lance has been front and center lately. Transparent. In the past, he has apologized. Paid a price. I can't blame any who hold a grudge, remain ambivelent. I see a man who is in a process of redemption. That takes courage on some level. He will never be who we all expected he would be or hoped he would be. So why seek to hold him accountable to that? Maybe by spewing venom his way you feel better in a world you need to feel better in? Who am I to judge? I have hurt people. Been through a bankruptcy. But I'm not a threat to you or anyone you love. To hate takes practice. To hold on to hate means you have been hurt in some similar way in the past. Therefore the injured seek to injure others given an opportunity to bring all who can be influenced into their own darkness. As a victim of another who took advantage of me… and ruined my life … I know all too well what it takes to transition from victim to survivor and I can tell you… forgiveness takes time and self reflection. Forgiveness doesn't remove accountability, but it allows the victim to move on and live with better pupose amidst the transgressions we endure. And sometimes… the forgiveness is for ourselves. For being a part of it all in a way we never chose.
