It’s also a great opportunity to reiterate that Will Smith’s performance as Muhammad Ali, under Michael Mann’s direction, is one of the best performances & one of the best choices of Smith’s career. I don’t know anyone who could’ve played Ali better than Smith did in this film.

Michael Mann’s Ali is the most under-appreciated film of Mann’s career. The opening to this film never fails to give me goosebumps. I know Jaime Foxx & Will Smith are each massive movie stars at this point, but strip it all down & both are just incredible actors. This is proof.

Michael Mann’s most recent film Ferrari is available to stream on Netflix & I strongly advise you give it a shot. The performances from Adam Driver & Penelope Cruz are exceptional. Cruz deserved a Best Supporting Actress nom here. Mann’s direction is also excellent, per usual.

Looper is a great film. Full stop. Not only is this one of the last great performances from Bruce Willis, this is one of the best science fiction films of the century. I said it and I stand by it. I also thought JGL’s career would take off from this moment but it never happened.

Spike Lee’s Inside Man should be mentioned as one of Spike’s best films ever. Denzel is incredibly magnetic in this film- I think it’s one of his best post-Training Day performances. The entire cast is also excellent, from Clive Owen to Chiwetel Ejiofor to Willem Dafoe & Jodie Foster. That’s all without mentioning the late Christopher Plummer, who himself is exceptional in this film. I truly love this movie.
