Christopher Nolan’s next film is only 63 days away but the doubters are out in full force- you can hear them from miles away. I’d like to offer an olive branch to those questioning Nolan in this moment: there’s still time for you to reverse course & stop doubting Nolan. I’m truly surprised by how many have suggested that The Odyssey could be a full-blown failure. The “bust potential” conversations around this film are growing, albeit needlessly. Many have criticized Nolan’s casting decisions & creative decisions- without even seeing the film. This is all without mentioning that Nolan just won multiple Oscars- he just gave us an immediate classic with Oppenheimer. Doesn’t that mean he gets the benefit of the doubt? Shouldn’t people hold their reservations until they see Nolan’s vision through? It doesn’t make any sense to me. Let this be a line of demarcation. 63 days out from The Odyssey, if you’re one of those folks doubting/questioning Nolan, this might be one of your last chance to be on the right side of history when Nolan drops another classic.

Dunkirk is the third best film of Christopher Nolan’s career. On Nolan’s 56th birthday & at a time when the man has the entire world in his palm, I still think Dunkirk remains one of the highlights of Nolan’s career. Land. Sea. Air. Nolan crosses them all with a superb cast to tell an incredibly necessary story. The filmmaking here is out of this world. 🎂

16 years ago, Inception changed my expectations of what a summer blockbuster could deliver. Flash forward to 2026 & Christopher Nolan has done it again. I definitely see parallels between some of the filmmaking techniques Nolan deploys in Inception as well as in The Odyssey. The Odyssey feels like a summation of all of Nolan’s past work, Inception included.

The Last Duel is Matt Damon’s best film of the decade that was not directed by Christopher Nolan. It would be hard for any film to top Oppenheimer or The Odyssey, but Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel has aged stupendously. This deserves a re-release in theaters at some point. Damon is electric in this movie.

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk won 3 Oscars, including Best Sound Editing & Best Sound Mixing. The reason I mention that is because Dunkirk has always been the film in which Nolan put so much emphasis on sound. The sound here brings you face-to-face with the story. It’s brilliant.

Christopher Nolan gave a massive, massive shoutout to Guillermo del Toro as a major inspiration for how Nolan brought various creatures in The Odyssey to life. In an interview with Los Angeles Times , Nolan shared that Del Toro taught him to approach monsters the way you approach any other character & to make use of human-made practical effects rather than relying just on CGI. It’s a tremendous interview & Nolan is really candid- I strongly recommend the full interview.

It’s officially #ChristopherNolanWeek but Michael Caine officially isn’t part of this week’s new Nolan release & that makes me sad. Caine & Nolan combined for 8 films together, the latest, and presumably the last, being Tenet back in 2020. Michael Caine is simply one of the most important actors of my life. The fact he has an additional chapter near the end of his career with Nolan is so legendary. I cherish this duo.
