ITS DONE! I built a Paintbrush Controller to play Pictomancer by literally painting 🖌️🎨 Scan Colors to queue up spells ➡️Brush to activate them ➡️ create "art" on Duty Complete! Make sure to cover your floor with a tarp because paint gets everywhere #ffxiv #ff14

LMAO this was suppose to come out in the morning but I messed up the AM vs PM. Thread time 🧵 Yes! This is a paintbrush controller I built to play PCT with. It's literally a giant tube with a paint brush powered and the Palette has a Joy-Con attached to it (1/?)

So the main piece of the build was the Color Sensor. Nightmare to program/re-calibrate through this I could get the RGB value of anything infront of the brush. The entire controller was built around this (2/?)

Once the color was queued it would then tell the brush "hey, whenever the User 'brushes' (move the paintbrush in a direction with force) activate X ability". By "X" I mean whatever the scanned color is tied too. For example painting with "Blue" would always activate RB-X (3/?)

The palette was set-up in a way to kind of force the User to push their paintbrush into the paint to get the color they wanted. You cannot escape getting paint on you or the canvas! So a common experience would be Scan color ➡️Brush Canvas ➡️ Do damage (4/?)

The Palette handle the movement, camera, and cycle through the Crossbiar. I built a JoyCon holder that was rotatable which allowed me to hold the palette in any angle that I needed. It also allowed me to play FFXIV with almost just 1 hand! (5/8)

So far the set-up might seem confusing but it isn't too bad. Think of the Paintbrush as a wiimote and the Palette as a nunchuk. The hardest part really is remembering where each color is on the palette and scanning the right one. I've miss scanned so many times... (6/8)

My Paintbrush controller did well in Duty Roluette but my favorite tests were during PVP. Combat with the paintbrush is intense but it's probably the most realistic experience you're going to get playing an Art Student vs literal Dark Knights and Mages (7/8)

Overall it's one of my favorite builds I've ever made I wish I could set it up somewhere and let others splatoon it up! Definitely won't be the last you'll see of this build! 🥰 Thanks for reading! Here are some of the "art" pieces made during gameplay!

This would be the perfect controller for Epic Mickey rebrusbed !

doing the picto opener in savage is gonna go hard with this oh my god
